Pilot Bushing Install

Hey Guys,
I have a 383 that I am installing the bronze pilot bushing in. It has an A833 4 speed. Does the beveled end go in first or does the straight end go in first?

Beveled end goes in the crank. Put it in the freezer for a couple of hours before installing. I modified my steering wheel puller to push the bushing in. You have a way better chance of not damaging it by doing this instead of pounding it in.

Thanks! Yes, I read about the steering wheel puller, I'm going to try it today, what did you have to modify on it? I got the bushing in the freezer now.

I just had to file the puller a bit to get it to accept larger bolts. The ones that screw into the crank. My puller was only capable of using 3/8" bolts, and you will need 7/16" x 4" fine thread bolts.

There is a bearing replacement for it that came off of a Durango I believe that works a bit better.

I prefer the bushing, but know that some do like the bearing setup better. Makes me nervous having all those needles in there when you wouldn't have to. If putting a 4-speed behind a auto crank, then the bearing is your only option after cutting about 3/4" off the trans input shaft.
 
I have an OEM installation that I used both in. For added security.
