Hey guys, I was out in the garage earlier looking over the block for my '68 Charger. The block is the original matching numbers block and I'm a bit confused on some of the numbers. On the front pad by the intake it is stamped:
D 440 HP 410. Now from what I understand the 410 is the date code, meaning it was assembled on April 10th, 1968.

Ok, so looking at the stamped number on the pan rail underneath I have: PT440S24292606. If the 2429 is the date code, that comes up as March 22nd, 1968. I thought that the top and bottom stamped date codes were supposed to be the same, not almost a month apart. Am I missing something?

Nope, not the same. Just need to be close. You’re good.

I don’t know the history or the way they got stamped but I’ve not seen one that was the same day yet.

Ok cool, cause I Google searched it and the two examples I found matched each other, so it got me nervous. Thanks for the help!

You should also have a VIN stamp on the top of the bell housing flange if it’s an HP. It’s between the two oil ports.

I’m sure someone will chime in, maybe they match a bit more often than I’ve seen.

Yes, I have the partial VIN on the bellhousing flange that matches the dash VIN tag

Just curious, when was your block cast? Mine was March of '67 but wasn't assembled until 4/17/68. Its the numbers matching block.

Mine was casted on January 16th of '68. Wow, March of '67, I didn't think that they sat around that long before being built
