For some reason I pictured it going in vertically. So, what are the two holes for?
The holes are just for strength. It’s a small crossmember doing a large job. Along with the torque arm mount, it’s has to hold the opposing front and rear corners in the same plane. Otherwise, the x-brace is useless.

The trans output is directly above this little guy. The mount, which I haven't drawn up yet, is about a foot forward. I have to get the engine mounts stabbed next.

Quick look at the first use of the engine mount fixture tool, as I construct the first clevis.

It will be handy using this rather than the 535 lb engine for setup/mock-up.

Very cool David, very cool. I see that the 14 gauge will be much lighter and easier to work with. I know that you really hated to reverse course and tear it all out. It will be better, as you say, in the long run. I agree that having friends with tools you don't own is always nice. It is looking great and I will continue to watch, inspiration squared. Nice dog. lol.
 
The first Rev2 engine mount is done. This design takes several hours to build, and I’m on to the next one.

They do. I run through a 150cu ft bottle every 7-10 days, and have two bottles. It’s enough that I’m shopping for a new supplier...need to trim that monthly expense.

Exact weight is pending, but the software totaled the whole system at just shy of 5 lbs. of material. Add fasteners, and a bit of weld bead.

They aren’t light like a race mount with a pivot joint, but they aren’t made from straight 3/16 like most factory stuff. I wanted the NVH absorption and durability of the factory stuff, but optimized for weight. It’s all .110 plate.

I got a bit smarter and made a fixture plate for the second mount. That assembly is underway, but this stuff takes a good chunk of time.

Just a bunch of weld inches. Each base plate takes 5ish hours - small parts are susceptible to warp without time, a bunch of clamps, and a great heat sink.
