What’s Everyone Doing with Stock Portfolios?

Now is the time to BUY/ There are lots of bargains to be had right now.

My broker called me 2 days before the Dow started dropping. He made some changes that helped greatly. My cash management account rose by 1700 for the month and my IRA only dropped a couple of grand. I'm sure I'm loosing some, but it would have been tremendous if he had not made changes. That's why I have been with the same individual since the 80's.

I think he meant the Dow at 25k - I agree tho I believe this is going to take several years to recover from. I read today that most of these events recover I 15 months - I think this is different. I’m saying years......

I think you're right on both counts, Dow and period of recovery. I misunderstood his post. Thanks!

This being an election year will also cause the market to be a roller coaster ride. Still think once people realize the sky isn’t falling it will rise back up again.

Theres a lot of blood in the street regarding financial losses due to this viral outbreak. Many of the experts are saying to hold on and weather the storm. What do you guys think - have you held your positions or bit the bullet and sold for safer pastures? I’ve always been a hold guy but admit this time it feels different.... What are you all doing?

Drive time traffic for high tech - Google, Apple, Amazon, Cisco, PayPal, NASA, looks like the day the earth stood still in these parts.

Buying small positions on the way down, like catching a falling knife. Travel and hospitality stocks are taking a beating; they will rebound eventually.

Sold everything on the 27th, saved me neer 150 large (as of last night), and it was against my brokers advise. Will be buying back in soon.

As far as people saying hold and don't panic, i never panic, this is just playing around money, but it's still my money and I make my own decisions with it.

If you don't need it now, then it is nothing more than a number written on paper. Hold.

I remember how much money I "lost" in my 401K when the plunge in 2008 happened. Until a few days ago, it had rebounded to much, much more than what is was before. The markets will do that again.

I agree, don't panic sell, because then you likely WILL lose.

Hmm....if people are selling, them people are buying.
So if people are buying what is being sold, why does the market keep dropping?
This is being manipulated purposely.

They’re all in their communities buy TP and cleaners at the grocery store. Yesterday, traffic around DC and Baltimore was definitely lighter than normal.

Holding......I'll lose some just like back in 2008 but not gonna panic......

Holding. This will pass.Maybe buy in the next 2 weeks. Watching.

Doing a sell is a recipe for disaster, according to the pro's. Only 31 people passed due to Covid-19 in the US as of today, 3/12/20. The flu takes out more.

I hope everyone will realize they're overreacting when it's over. Yes, it is highly contagious, and fast moving, and lots of folks will get it. Then many will have antibodies to the virus and it will be over.

I hope you realize very soon that the response to this is not a knee-jerk reaction. This will decimate the economy and many people will die. Right now is still the beginning.
Good luck with the antibodies. People can and will catch this more than once.

The economy is fine, stocks are not overpriced, unemployment is low, there is no housing bubble and all indicators point to a quick come back due to all the things that aren't wrong. This is not 2008-09, this is a buy opportunity. Do not sell!!! I sold in 2008-09 four months before the crash because of the one factor that was in your face, the continue increase in housing cost. When a house goes from 89 thousand to a 155 thousand, a starter home, there is a problem. People buying houses, holding a few months, throw a few bucks at it and flipping for 5 to 10 percent gains is nuts. How long can that go on before the market can't take it and people stop. Those that bought high are stuck with a house that will never bring them back their money, check, checkmate. This will pass and if you hold, you'll be fine, if you buy, you'll make money. Just my opinion.

It's too late to sell if you've been holding on.....

Holding.
I too have lost a bundle, but no where near what I made since '08.
Much like a rubber ball, what goes up, must come down and what goes down, will bounce back up.
Sell now and a "paper loss" becomes a real loss.
"This too shall pass."
