Heater push button control problem 66 Satty

I'm putting my car back together after paint and discovered the push button controls for the heater/AC are frozen, won't push in or out. Prior to paint the A/C was removed with an engine exchange. The heater worked great and the push buttons were operable. Is there something that needs to be done to make the buttons operable? They appear to be connected with vacuum hoses at the back side of the push buttons, is the a way to charge the hoses to make them function again. I'm completely in the dark about the function of the heater control. Thanks

Those buttons have plastic ramps on the other end that cause flat plates to slide into different configurations to route vacuum.

The end section, where the hoses attach is quite fragile and a nipple can break off easily.

I've disassembled and lubricated a couple but it's been 25 years and I don't remember what I used to help the sliding.

I do remember carefully filing the melted pins to get them apart and agonizing over how to reattach them.

...and being very careful about the order of the plates during disassembly.

YY1 is correct about these switches. I have managed to rebuild a couple with limited success. They’re a terrible design. I have photos if you want to PM me. Please note there are dozens of NOS units for sale online at very high prices BUT they may not be applicable to your car. You must check the part number for the correct year of the vehicle.

Maybe two buttons are pushed slightly and locking movement of the sliders?

I believe the same assembly used on 66/67 B body cars was also used in 70 and up A body cars.

I think I may have used a graphite based liquid from a tube, applied sparingly as a lube.
