Hello
first of all … i wanna introduce myself shortly… i am from Germany, 41 year old and currently owner of a 51 chevy pickup :)

Since a few years i am also Looking for a Dodge Charger in mind condition…. unfortunately i waited too Long and the Prices have been exploded !!

So lets come to the point … i hope you will not shot me for my question :)

CUrrently i have a very cheap Option to get a Dodge Coronet 1968 ….with a very solid Frame and drive Train....
I am now thinking to Change all the Body parts to convert the car into a 68`charger..

Pls let me know if this would be possible ?

I guess all the front parts (Fender / Hood / grill) just needs to be replaced….

The most critical part is the quarter panel..... i am not sure if this will fit to the roof ?? also
the parts between trunk lid and rear window ??

Looking Forward to ur Feedback.... :) !!

Thanks alot

You can just about build a Charger from the AMD catalog. On the other hand all the dutchman panel, rear glass metal and roof panel will be needed. If you're capable of the metal work, go for it. If you have to pay someone you have 2 problems, one finding someone, and 2 your budget.

Why not just fix up the coronet ? I have a 68 coronet, and love it ! Especially the tail lights ! So cool !

i fell in love with the charger …..so Fixing the coronet is no Option :)

@Jerry Hall
I am able to do the Metall work by myself , otherwise it would be to costly….

I have to install the deck filler Panel and all the Corners ….. this shouldnt be a Problem ….. i just Need to know if the substructure (Skeleton) of the Coronet is more or less the same than of the charger ????

Thx
Achim

The roof structure is completely different at the rear. The C pillars, rear window and Dutchman are all Charger specific.
IT can be done but in the end it is like marrying a transsexual. The outer appearance may look the same but you're in for a LOT of work to create an imposter. You'll still have a Coronet listed on the title and selling it will be difficult if you hope to get much money.
The Coronet is a nice car and still essentially the same under the skin.

It sounds as if you have some skills. Why not buy the coronet, fix it up, flip it, & use the money toward a charger ? Seems better than destroying a coronet, imo.

@ Kern Dog
Thx for the info… if the C pillar is different ….than most likely its too much work and u are right...in the case of reselling …i will loose a lot of Money.

I have another Option for a 68 charger …. unfortunately it is quite far away….i will open another thread ,i got some pics of the seller and hope to get some Feedback about the condition of the car

The structure of the inner and outer portions of the C pillar are different, the speaker deck and supports are too. If the Coronet is a POST model. then you have a B pillar to eliminate.

charger front and doors on a coronet might be pretty cool...... I totally dig the tail lights on the 68 500 and R/T

If you have a 68/69 Coronet. You will be surprised at how many people over time confuse it for a 68/69 Charger out in public. The 68/69 Coronet does resemble the 68/69 Charger in a lot of ways. Regardless, of someone knowing the difference or not. I’d say it’s not worth trying to make a Coronet a Charger. Put as much love and effort into fixing up the Coronet. It’s a very special car in its own right and it will remind you of a Charger also. This is one of many factors that make a 68/69 Coronet pretty special. It’s the closest car that resembles the most iconic car of all time, a 68/69 Charger. As much as they look like one another. They both have their separate appeal too. This is a big reason why the 68/69 Coronet is very appealing to most people. Everyone loves that body style on both cars. They are very similar. You will appreciate the Coronet for its own unique style, while it reminds you of that iconic Charger. If that makes sense.

Something like this would be more practical. If your stuck on that idea.

It can be done,the door jambs,outer wheel housings,tail panel,rear valence,corners,rear speaker deck with plenum,trunk floor pan,dutch panel,quarters,roofskin,trunklid,doors,hood,fenders,bumpers,grille,etc. My car was a Satellite.

Interesting idea...this is something my crazy mind would come up with lol...there's a video on YouTube of a guy covering a crownvic to a 69 charger, just to jump it

Hy all.....
thanks for all ur Feedback....i will go on with my search for a original charger :) and Keep the Coronet as it is :)
Thx
Achim

The Charger doors would stick out two inches beyond the quarterpanels,

I was wondering about that...... and the coronet quarters have that scallop that doesn't really look right....... I'm sure the charger quarters can be made to work.......... basically would be a charger with coronet roof, deck lid, and tail

Back in the day, about 1976, I went to purchase a 1969 Roadrunner advertised by one of the finer fly by night used car dealerships where I lived. Red with white interior. 4 spd. console. Looked pretty good from inside and the front. Something didn't look quite right with the quarters but I couldn't place it at first. Then I noticed the Dodge letters under the trunk deck lid. Walked / ran away. Never did see what it said on the title / vin. So not sure if it was a Coronet with Plymouth front sheet metal or it was a cobbled together back half / front half. Glad it wasn't me learning a hard lesson.
