I have heard the shifter mount bracket for the 71 B-body with bench seat called a dog bone.

Yep. On tailshafts that had two shifter positions, the rear would be too far back for a bench seat, and the front would be under the dash, so they used a bracket to move the shifter about half way back from the front position. Called a dog bone.

That dog bone is also good when ya stuff a B/E body 4 speed into an A body.

Needed for 71-74 B with bench seat and buckets with buddy seat.
