So I originally bought a complete PS pump from Year One. Turns out is was Junk. So I ordered a new core and kept the sheetmetal part. I get the new core and go to assemble it and the studs from the Year one pump are metric and the core from the parts store has SAE threads. My question is did the original pumps have SAE or Metric studs. I'm trying to figure out what is correct and what is wrong. Thanks for your help.

THe problem could be that these Saginaw pumps were used for many years in many models yet they look similar. AMCs even used them!
I recall having this problem with a Camaro I had 20 or 25 years ago. Parts were really easy to find so I just got a different pump and didn't think about it much.
I have about 12-15 Saginaw cores. Let me know via PM is you want one.

I can't imagine a 69 Mopar would have had anything metric on it.
By the way, I swear you and I have got to be about the 2 most unlucky people when it comes to restoring these old jalopies.....

That's what I was thinking on both accounts. I thought maybe the YO pump put the incorrect studs in. You can put a 3/8 nut on 8mm, but not the other way around.
Joel this sh*t is really hurting my motivation!

Come on, think about it. Metric in 1969 in the US????

Sometime in the late 70s or early 80s, GM started going to metric fasteners. Since they were the largest purchaser of Saginaw products, maybe all the Saginaw pumps went metric. The "canned ham" Saginaw pump looks the same for 20 years or more. Swapping should be simple.

Maybe I can find some SAE studs...

Saginaw pumps pre-1974 were all key-way pulley shaft with SAE threads, 74-79 used press-fit shaft with SAE threads, 80 and up used press on shaft with metric threads. SAE thread size 3/8-16 Metric thread size is M10X1.5

Early pumps would be SAE sometime in the late 70s and into the 80s metric started to surface more.

This is great information and answers the question well

Mine is a keyed shaft. But came from year one with metric 8mm studs......
Thanks for the info!

Thank God for small victories, found my old pump and it has the correct studs.

That isn't a Saginaw pump.
Looks TRW or Federal.

Here is a Saginaw. I wrote earlier "Canned Ham" because the reservoir looks like the case of a canned ham.
