When doing a custom dash I would like to have a fuel light besides the fuel gauge that turns on at a certain fuel level in the tank.

My electrical skills don't go that far but is it possible to make? Is it an Ohm thing?

I am sure there are several ways to do this but it is a sensor thing, you have to have a system that is triggered by something else; could be ohms from the sending unit I suppose. I have never looked into doing something like this but it can't be that hard I wouldn't think but I am not sure, google it.

Since its not vehicle specific, i would think a junk yard would be a good place to find the entire system.

If you are building a custom dash, you could look at the Autometer Elite gauge series as they can be programmed to change colour at different levels to provide a warning feature. This could be used in place of a separate warning light. They come in the standard diameters and they have all of the usual gauge types. They aren't cheap, but they seem pretty nice. This video shows off their features.

Hope you post some pictures of your dash when you get it done. Cheers!

I’ve already got the Autometer Mopar series. Just want to add a separate warning light when the tank is almost empty.

Thats cool I guess, so I think you need to decide if you want it to trigger off your gauge or be independent. If you trigger off the gauge, then why not just look at the gauge... I mean its not like a shift light or low oil pressure light. I have speedhut gauges in my Cuda and I think I can program the fuel light, I know I can for oil and water but again seems a bit redundant to me, I never trust most of these gauges anyway until I know the vehicle.

OR, go find a C body with the optional light package. My 71 Fury Custom Suburban had a fuel light. That and a "gate ajar" light in the cluster, with the indicators on the fenders. Just a low ohm relay lit the light. Likely similar to the system in E bodies with the low fuel light in the overhead console.
