65 belvedere gas pedal low and not enough travel

I have been using a Lokar cable on my 63 for 14 years since I put it on the road. When I was done I could not get full throttle even with the cable as tight as it could go. So I went inside the car and bent that rod that the pedal hits on with the roller on it as I bent it up for more pedal travel and that cured the problem and gave me full throttle. Its been like that for 14 years now. Ron

Agree with Ron. COLD bend the pedal. Worked for me...

Thanks Guy's! I'm going to give bending this pedal linkage a shot and see where it gets me. Im still not even sure i have the right one in my car do you guys have any pictures of your pedal linakges and what years are your cars?

1963 Plymouth Fury: This is after I bent the arm for more throw. Disregard the spacer blocks...

I don't have any pics of mine but its a 63 Sport Fury and looks like the nice one Coloradodave posted. I will also say be careful when you bend it as you dont want to break it. I bent mine a fair amount but when you bend it if you think its going to break then stop. I bent mine in the car with a real big screwdriver but you could also take the pedal out and then heat the rod and bend it. Good luck as it worked great for me. Ron

Thanks guys for the i planned on heating it to bend. My linakge definitely looks different then what you guys posted. They definitely changed designs between 63 and 68 dont know what year so im still undecided if mine is correct or not. Your linkages definitely have a different bolt pattern where cable comes through as well as different arms. I'll know more when i get a chance to remove it to see if it was redrilled in firewall by previous owner to make this one work.

As I said, I cold bent mine, not wanting to take a chance on ruining any heat treating in the steel. Ron heated his. Both worked so it's your choice. Good luck.

No I did not heat mine. I thought about taking it out to heat it but I tried it in the car with a big screwdriver and it bent enough to do the job. I just did not want to bend it to much to break it but it worked out fine for me. Ron

I cold bent the pedal in my racecar last year. It snapped the weld about 20 passes later.

That sucks sorry, least you can weld it back up. I definitely have the wrong pedal assembly in my car took a loom today and the holes were redrilled in firewall for pedal assembly i have. No point in trying to bend the one I have now since it appears the arms are longer for the one i need which explains the low pedal as well. Off to search for the right one.

Locar comes with every thing you would need to use their cable . Here is what I did using my old petal.
First I welded a washer to the old petal and drilled it out to fit the Locar cable .
Then I cut the old cable off and used the clip and threaded my new cable into it.
Using the nut and lock washer in the kit and tightened it to the petal assembly .
Then threated it in to the braided line . The cable is a universal length and will needed to be cut to fit . On the end of the cable there is a sleave that slides into the piece that attaches to the carb. It comes with 2 return springs . Hope this helps John

What part number is your Lokar throttle cable.?

I wish I knew but I bought it back around 2005 from Mancini. All I remember is the guy who worked at Mancini told me it would work and it did. Ron
