Novel Coronavirus Situation Currently (facts, not hype)

Denied service at primary care - we should all have a backup plan in case we are denied service at our doctors. A good friend went in on Friday without COVID but had cold and was denied. Doctor wouldn't even come out to talk - all done with front desk. When asked why denied, no reason was given - well they said there was a fever, but that was not there. When asked where to go they first said try CDC. When told CDC is more than 1000 miles away, they said "Health department?" When told health department doesn't treat, they said ER. This is a person with a type of cancer that compromises immune system and who has been in isolation for a few weeks.

Just saw a note that hospitals might need to start denying access in the US.

We need a backup if it comes to the point where these services are needed. Doctors and hospitals look out for themselves. If there is a law that prevents this, please let us know.

It doesn't look like we are set up to deal with a full blown pandemic. Let's hope it never gets there and that powers that be saying not to worry are right.

MA Governor, Charlie Baker (rhymes with faker), closed schools for 3 weeks and banned gatherings of more than 25 people. There goes my son's wedding on April 3rd. The date is important to them as that was the day that they first met, so we told them to have a small gathering of immediate family members at our house and still have their wedding, then have the festivities at the venue when things clear up.

We've got a flight to Honolulu & 7-day cruise scheduled for early June, so we'll have to see how things are doing at that time.
I may miss out on my grand daughter's wedding. No big loss imo as I haven't heard from her in over two years. Kinda getting tired of chasing down family members to try and stay in touch......

Have been dealing with a knee injury since late December, scheduled an appointment in early January, my doc was on vacation (in India ) at the time, had to see the fill in Doc, who almost had me running to E R, mistaking a Baker cyst, for a blood clot... an interesting 24 hour period. Any way, just hit 60, so we did the blood work, and everything else as well, the appointment was set for this morning... Received a 8:30 call last night from the Doc...
I'm cancelled to further notice.. up set...No...Never thought I would see this in my life time,
Hope they sort this stuff out.

I got a work text this morning. No work today because of R A I N. Wooooo!
JCharger above Cranky touched on an interesting point. If hospitals are turning away NON Covid cases, it makes a man wonder how many other risks we might wish to avoid taking. Imagine any activity that might result in an injury that NOW you might not be able to get medical care. What if you fall off of a bike and break an arm? How about sex with a stranger that could result in "the drip" ? Fist fights, working up on a ladder, operating power tools, etc.
This **** can make a worrier out of a normally secure person.
What about looking to other sources for medical care for emergency type injuries? Dentists, Veterinarians, Ambulance operators, Chiropractors, etc ?

Can't forget about the most important medical care profession that works wonders for getting the poison out; hookers in Vegas.

The unsung heroes of the modern world.
This stuff is slowly killing me! Suck it out ! Suck it out!

They say in Italy because the health system is overloaded, The medical professionals triage patients for needed care and the older folks are turned away. The younger patients are treated because they have more of a life to live. And of course, the older folks are more susceptible to catch it. Sad stuff.

New fact about coronavrus-- those with high blood pressure who contact the disease are more susceptible to death.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
For some reason, Washington state, California and New York state have far and away
the highest numbers of reported cases.
Higher concentrations of Asian populations maybe?

Here in my state (TN), we've had 39 cases confirmed so far, most all in the metro areas.

Just saw that the Oklahoma state school board is having a meeting @ 4pm today to discuss closing of all schools.

welcome to,
what it'd be like in a socialist single payer system

I just read something form S-I-R , my dad belongs too
Seniors In Retirement (a big seniors/social org.) newsletter my father gets

to paraphrase;
the corona virus supposedly isn't heat resistant,
that temps
as low a 77-81 can help slow or kill it, it "allegedly" hates the sun too

these guys are usually pretty reliable
not 100% sure, the "Big Sir" Pres. guy, who sent the e-mail,
is a retired Dr. (of what, I don't know)

just figured I'd share
my dad's cardio pulmonary testing/cardio rehab
all his 36 sessions, 3 day a week, for 3 hrs a day Mon. Wed. Fri. sessions
have all been cancels, he's about 1/2 way thru it 6 weeks in
(trying to increase his strength & lung capacity, stabilize etc.)

They say;
That as a precaution, that no one "allegedly" has it,
but there's just too many chances & the attendants are "all weaker/frail"
more susceptible &/or recent heart opp. patients
& most are more susceptible to phenomena, weakened immune etc.
& other pulmonary distress, like COPD or asthma...
"that's why most of them, are there in the 1st place"

----------------------------------------------------------

I don't know of any cases up here "yet",
we are pretty spread out
only 54,000 in the whole huge county
most these long time "country/rural people",
they mostly all are so far doing the correct things...

I'm sure there's some stubborn SOB's,
newcomers/flatlanders/tourists, those that think it doesn't apply to them :poke:
that probably won't do the correct/proper things/precautions...

stay safe & stay healthy people

we'll see how it goes, in the next couple weeks

& it's snowing like a m-fer right now, has been since 7 am
oh so fun

i can tell you personally from experience that heat only made the headaches ten times worse and didnt kill shyt except almost kill me.
the heat makes it even harder to breath as well.
trust me,i tried this at everything from 55-85 and i ended up with the heat Off huddled in a blanket and ice packs on my forehead for Days.
i still have a slight fever and im barely using the heat.

now the chili with spicy and lots of pepper did seem to clear me up a lot,
and crackers and lots of teas or fluids.
hope this helps.

plus,if you can swing it,and know where any are laying around not being used,
grab one of those breathing things for anyone elderly
the oxy tanks can be refilled and you might save a life.

My wife was in Lincoln NE for 10 days now we are both experiencing bad headaches Sharpe stomach pains and sore throat. But I don't think it is that virus per say. But we have been under the weather for about 4 days now. Me I very seldom leave the place. Just a touch of something I guess. Thanks for posting I love chili and jalapenos the hotter the better. lol

I woke up yesterday with a feeling in my lungs. Today I have a hoarse throat and infrequent coughing. The wife has something similar. I don’t think it’s anything more than a cold. Just poor timing.

for me it was ,
the fever, sometimes burning sometimes just low and hovering.
the Pressure headaches, like my brain was swelling inside my head < that kinda bad.
the stomach, first upset then later on vomiting blue? and green? stuff.
the almost stupifying lack of oxygen to my brain.
i could barely get full breaths if i did then i got major lightheadness and so forth.
this went on for over a week,at one point my brother came over to check on me i was in same place i was 42 hours ago. and i thought hed been gone 30 minutes...
and im 52 and work outside...which is why i worry about older members.

i hope n wish the best for you and your family Dream and Gtxman.
and hey,it doesnt hit everyone the same and Most of us are recovering .

Statistics provided by the CDC and the WHO as of today:
(Lots of variables here, of course - different methods of testing, timelines of infestations, etc.)

Confirmed Fatal Recovered
China 80851 3199 (4%) 66931 (83%) (13% ongoing)
Italy 24747 1809 (7.3%) 335 (1.3%) (91.4% ongoing)
USA 3680 68 (1.8%) 59 (1.6%) (96.6% ongoing)

Global 169354 6571 (3.8%) 76598 (45.2%)(51% ongoing)

80851 cases in China
169354 cases globally
Wonderful. The first COVID-19 case appeared around mid-November (4 months ago) in China and the first case outside of China was two (?) months ago... that's a mighty fast rate of cases outside of China.

Let's pray that the efforts being taken by the USA will work.

Anyway, on a related note (a soapbox for me):

Psychological research shows that “neither special instructions about the nature of exponential growth nor daily experience with growth processes” improved the failure to grasp exponential growth processes.6
