Heart of Dixie.....
Guys, need a dizzy for my 440 project. In searching the many threads I like the GM HEI conversion as I am very familiar with those systems. The 440 a PO had installed in my 73 had replaced the electronic unit with a point type from a 69 440. I have a dizzy from a small block and it seems to bolt in and line up....the only difference I can see is the location of the vacuum advance....can you swap them or need one made for your motor.

I plan to use the ford coil, GM control module and the writers suggusted just getting a refurbished Mopar unit for $50 bucks.....in my net search I haven't found one. All I see is A Team dizzy s that I assume are Chinease knockoffs and some say not very reliable .....what say you....thanks....

Nothing wrong with the mopar ignition system not sure the benefit of putting ford and Chevy stuff on there!

You need a dist. from an RB engine. 440, 426, 413. A small block or a B engine one will not work. The shafts are all different lenghts, and a small block one also turns in the opposite direction. The small block one might just catch the gear below, but there would be no mechanical advance.

Please call it a distributor.
Nobody with any intellect calls a carburetor carby, a quarter panel a quartie or a Charger a Chargie.

C'mon Kern, he's just trying to cut down finger pokes!!! Carburetor (carb) 6 less pokes! Chargie(?) not so much. Trans? We cud go on forever.

No need to add incorrect items for a Mopar. Just get the distributor and Electronic module from Rockauto and done.

LX101 has been rated as a good unit.

and coil... you can get an MSD blaster 2 if you want to add some plus on ign system

usually dist comes with aluminium terminals on cap... you can get brass units

You need a RB distributor a small one will not work as stated above. Also watch out on RA rebuilds they just have a generic curve that might be good for you or may not. Run from the knockoffs, just poor quality. You will need a Mopar electronic distributor to make the GM module work which is a great system also. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the links, Nacho, I did not think of them. Looks like I will need a new firewall harness as a PO has butchered the original electronic wiring. Does the original system allow the plugs to be gapped to .45, I like the hotter firing. Which one of those ignition modules don t leak. ALL my non running Mopars have leaked and running down the firewall . Noticed yesterday my 73 Challenger one has melted and piled up on the exhaust pipe and run all down the trans dipstick. Thought it s time to upgrade.

Do NOT gap the plugs any wider than the published spec. .035 is the spec that I recall. This is not a mid 70s GM HEI that often had specs for plug gaps up to .080.
Don't believe me? Try it and report back how the car performs at WOT. Ten bucks says you'll have some misfires.

new harnesses are available around.

As I have told, the LX101 standard module has being reported as a good replacement unit. There are several other options on the stock setup being performance Rev-N-Nator is one of them, but I think they are out of stock at this moment. Not cheap thought ($200 rate ). You can get the full ignition setup from them too ( coil and dist ).

Distributor... mmmm you can get remanufactured, but even some distributor experts talks about POS chinesse junk, I can't think on anything built into the dist not fixable or adjustable from wherever has being made. They are anyway generic pieces, not specificaclly build for the car like factory did. Only real problem on these are the pickup coil quality on my concern.

If you get to find an old MP unit made by Mallory, that could be good too. They come on original tan cap with brass terminals. And mechanical advance can be adjusted

the next option is the firecore units, which are not more than a stock unit with an easier bushing service setup ( but this bushing could be serviced maybe once every 10 years LOL )

Superbly expressed..... an additional do not use word might be: "Eddie" or "Eddy" in lieu of the manufacture's real name....EDLEBROCK. Perhaps evoking the "if you can't spell the word, don t use it" rule......or are we turning into a society of imogees or phonetics? Just my opinion of course.

So... I can't call you "Bobby" ... ?

I thought I had a problem with the dizzy on my Chally but it turned out to be a tranny problem.

ABSOLUTELY call me anything you like...but.....as Alan Alda, once spoke, as Hawkeye Pierce, on the old M.A.S.H. tv program...."...you can call me: HAY YOU, BUB, and can even call me a cab......but just don t call me late for dinner".... i guess it all comes down to semantics.....
