First i must say, a great wife is worth more then a car. But in 1972 I went to a Dodge dealership and wanted a special car. I special ordered a 1973 Dodge Charger, 340 6 pack. But that engine was not available any longer. The dealer actually called the Factory and they had a 340-6 still available. I order this: 73 Charger, 340-6 with bubble hood, pistol grip 4 speed with a bench seat. Yellow with black stripes, best radio available at the time, Duals and a few other things. The Factory would put a special code on the VIN that states a special ordered engine. I placed the special order. That night my wife cried and complained about the car so i cancelled it the next day. I put my wife before my car. Problem is that 6 months later i got a divorce. I would still put a great wife before any car, but i guess my wife was not great.

Shame! Lol. Hey man you made the decision that you thought was right at the time; there's no use kicking yourself over it...

my wife is great married for 42 years and she likes the road runner almost as much as I do

Before I got married, saw guys sell their toys little later divorced. Said to my future wife getting married for love but not selling anything. Want to accumulate more.

Cars for sure,, Women are like a death sentence.. no fun there.

Mine rode to and from the chapel in the Bee... still here some 38 years later and could drive circles around many... Even let me sell her '64 Vette 'vert.. 350 LT1 x 4 gear so I could do the Bee correctly.

Your one of the fortunate ones. My wife is like that as well. But she has her moments . Ever try sneaking a Henry J into a garage. And see if she notices? Thats when her car got punted out to the street. :D

And I m betting your still kicking your self in the ***

That Charger with those options certainly would have made the Mopar gurus heads spin if it was found in a barn these days. Never say never to Mopar.
There was Hemi Dart used for street racing back in the 80’s. The owner was a good friend, of my friend. I saw it race. His wife told him, he’s spending too much time with the car. He sold it for $1000 quick, she left anyways. Well I wasn’t at the right place at the right time. Never saw that car again. I did get his cherry picker that is still around (no not his wife). Thanks for your unique “could have been” story Robert.

I don't have to sneak anything around here, she went in with full knowledge of my flaws when she married me!! LOL

I'm curious as to what a 73 Charger with "Duals" would look like? Kind of redneck sounding to me. Didn't know the factory offered that.
Forgive me if I misread but did you mean carbs or rear wheels? Wouldn't a six pack be triples?

Without going into the myriad of reasons of why this didn't happen, it was 1000% impossible to order a factory 73 Charger with a 340+6 and let alone with an altered VIN.

I wasn't going to comment but the whole changing of the VIN for a special ordered car would be complete misinformation.

My first wife bitched about the time and money I spent on my car.
You love that car more than me.
Well.....
The car weighs less.
The car emits fewer emissions.
The car does what I ask from it.

Oh, This story the OP wrote is probably a "fuzzy memory" that seems real to him but was surely not what really happened.
There was another member here that recently claimed that a buddy's Aunt ordered a 2 door Satellite station wagon with a 426 Hemi in 1966.
Uhhh, no, Sir, she did not.
I hear these stories at car shows all the time.

I was helping out a friend, and snuck in a 65 nova to store for him. I said put a tarp on it so the wife don't see it. She said I don't know what is under that tarp, but I know it is not a Charger! Busted!

I got very lucky the second try. My wife is the best thing that ever happened to me. She takes care of everything household wise. I feel guilty sitting here on this site everyday as she sits across from me on her computer doing taxes, working on finances, setting up Dr. appointments for me,making calls and taking care of her 94 year old mother.I get to play with my cars and motorcycles, have a shop to work in and basically do what I want.My only job is to maintain the vehicles, house and yard work.
I'm a very lucky man.
