It isn't just the styling....it is much more than that.

As a kid, it was the rumble, the sound and, yeah, the styling.

I loved these cars from the moment that I saw them. Until I got closer and spent some time with them, the engineering of them never entered my mind.
The 60s and 70s were a period of development for these great cars where new features came along almost every couple years.
The 426 Hemi, the 833 4 speed, the torsion bar suspension....All great examples of Mopar engineering.

If not for the rumors throughout the auto industry that Chevrolet was planning on downsizing it's full size cars, the b body would not exist. The funny thing is that the new downsized Chevy turned out to be the Nova/Chevy II. The styling of the B body was a long learning curve to perfection. I fell in love with the second generation Charger the first time I saw one, then my parents bought one as our family car!

Yes, I agree. My Dad says I have loved these 68-70 Chargers before I was even old enough to know what they were. I would always go thru all the hot wheels cars and buy Chargers. This was even before D.O.H. and F&F ? movies. Saw Bullitt as a kid and that sealed it. I would have one someday. Coincidentally, a black 70 Charger R/T was my first car at 15 years old just waiting for me to get my license. Have never been without at least one Charger since then.

It's funny how some people just know at a very early age that they have a connection with these cars. I too was about 4 or 5 years old and knew that I would have a 70 charger. It wasn't my first car only because I couldn't find one quick enough, I've had mine since I was 16. Its hard to explain to people that aren't car guys. :steering:

The only car that my Dad bought brand new was a '68 Charger. I was born in '70, so by the time I was old enough to remember anything about the car, it was already a rusted out daily driver; but I always loved the car. I loved the sharp angles of the body work, the hideaway headlights, and the "Nascar" gas cap. All these years later, on a sunny fall day with the leaves changing colors I get the most vivid memories of starting kindergarten and my Mom taking me to school in it. I would sit on the folded down "buddy seat" arm rest. I could remember school letting out, running down the steps, and looking up the side street for the green Charger and seeing my Mom smiling at me. Attached is the only photo that we could ever find of the car.

The Wife has a 2015 Challenger R/T.
In summary, it is still a V8, rear wheel drive 2 door like my '70 Charger is. Gasoline powered, buckets seats, automatic transmission and 4 wheel disc brakes.
Driving the two of them is vastly different.
Aside from how quiet the new cars are, you just feel more connected to an older car. The actions need to be more deliberate to get the old car to go, turn and stop. Driving is not as casual in the Charger, you have to be more involved.
New cars with key FOBs, backup cameras, blind spot warning are nice but I can do fine without them.
I put an auto dimming rear view mirror in the Charger. It also has a compass and thermometer.
There is also an electric trunk latch.
I added A/C and a heater last year too.
It is possible to retain the classic feel while adding some modern conveniences.
Cup holders would be nice to have though.

the 68 Charger R/T's are some sexy looking cars
hands down the best coming & going, even from the side profile
my favorite front grill & rear taillights IMHFO

my 1st real car 1974 15 y/o bought for $350
I had to work all summer overtime to afford it too
68 Charger R/T GG1 (dark green), black top & guts, bucket seat & console

god I loved that car, smell, sounds, appearances & performance
the gas mileage not so much,
but gas was like $0.50+ a gal. for the cheap **** $0.60+ for Ethyl
the tires that I went thru like dirty socks. I got cast offs from the
full service Shell Station I worked at for $1.65-$2.00 an hr + side jobs & tips

a full tank was $12-$15 for High Test-Ethyl
& my pay was $13.20 a day to start

oh the good times, pretty much, I worked to fill my tank & drive

my boss was pretty damn cool, he'd give me a tank of fuel
for tip/bonus sometimes, that was like an extra full days pay

I'm pretty sure there will be some chargers "on sale" in the very near future......

Well I knew at an early age ! I was 8-9 ish we were going to the beach in my friend s dad's ram charger I thought it was cool we went by his buddy's House so they could ride together and that's when I saw it a 1972 plum crazy purple 440 charger go wing and all !!! It was the best thing I ever had seen! I've been in the guy next doors 77 bandit trans am it was cool but this charger was it as it slid out of the yard and down the street sideways!
Sadly the car got t boned and rolled years later .
So when I found my rusty 74 for sale when I was 15 I had to have it!

So I have a newer 07 srt8 superbee
And had many older cars to drive
I'll go with my 72 440 4 speed car for the comparison.
The bee is fast fun and comfortable
The charger was very fast extremely fun and scary as hell!
With 500+ hp in the rain you don't take it out!
The superbee is a bit easier (I have esp unplugged ) but even at that it's not trying to kill me !
But in my current need the superbee is needed as I need the back seat for the baby seat ! I'm not aloud to put the baby in the 64 300k since it's a vert! So that leaves me car less for shows unless I drive the bee !

I like my newer car but still would drive older first if I could

There ya go.. Just for you..... :D:D
Oh how I remember those, way too well...

or the ones that had the vinyl/weighted sand bags on each side
that sat on/straddled over the transmission tunnel
I still have one from the late 70's, that I still use in my RR...

sorry no photo

Yes the styling, when I was 8 in 1968 the guy down the road would fly past our house in a Charger. Since then I want one. See my thread in the restomod area.
