just installed my new distributor on my 440 no problems no issue. Fired right up, set the timing. I did notice that the idle rpm dropped compared to the advance auto parts distributor I had in there. I made no changes to the car except replacing the distributor and setting the timing right to where it was before. Just the rpm dropped, is that normal? I set the idle back to were I like the rpm to be, but don’t remember every having a drop like that.

If the initial is set differently in the distributor it would change your idle rpm. This would be done by the mechanical advance curve in the distributor being wider than the previous.

Did you confirm your timing with a timing light? Bet the rotor is clocked a little different than your old distributor. I would bet your timing is retarded from where it was before.

I did check with a timing light. I’m at 12 degrees base just like before, now I’m at 36 total right where it should be. Old distributor was 46 way too high for my motor.

So if I set the timing with the new distributor, I just need to adjust the idle back to my liking, because the fire core is set differently then the advanced auto parts one. Am I correct in saying that? Still have to take the car on a run, but timing it’s set correctly so I don’t foresee any issues.
