BUMP for this Fantastic and informative thread!
Great "Algorithim" in the beginning...BTW!
Thanks...

1974 440 wedge into a 67 coronet 500 w/ 318 v8.....727 trans...8 3/4 rear.

So from reading the foregoing I'm thinking that..
A. The motor will need correct mounts.
B. The K frame is good.
C. Need distributer wire lengthened.
D. Drive shaft shortened? Or not? Since I have a 727.
E. Will need a certain oil pan #? Other than the stock one on the 440?
F. Will need .96 torsion bars? Heavier duty shocks?

G. Anything else?

Thanks very much guys!

Shouldn't it be addressed that for 66-72, there are no bb or sb k members? They only have a v8 k member that works for both...

We want to swap a 5.9 Magnum into our '77 Cordoba with a 400, would the K Member be different for the SB and the BB in the 77 to 79 B's or is there different motor mounts we can buy? Any help appreciated.

IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS OR I AM MISSING SOMETHING PLEASE IDENTIFY WHERE IN THIS OUTLINE IT SHOULD GO AND THE RECOMMENDATION AND PM THAT SUGGESTION TO A MODERATOR SO THAT THEY MAY INSERT IT ACCORDINGLY. DO NOT PM ME WITH THE INFORMATION AS I AM ONLY ABLE TO EDIT THIS POST FOR A SHORT TIME AFTER POSTING.

SO YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO A SB OR /6 TO BB CONVERSION WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EH? WELL DUE TO THE POPULAR DEMAND OF THIS QUESTION, I DECIDED TO PUT A THREAD TOGETHER THAT WILL EXPLAIN, IN DETAIL, EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED TO DO, WHAT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER, AND WHAT WORK WILL NEED TO BE DONE (EDITORS NOTE: THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE F, M OR J BODY CARS, AND THIS IS NOT INCLUSIVE TO PUTTING IN A 2ND GENERATION HEMI, THOSE ARE FOR ANOTHER THREAD ALTOGETHER).

1. DO YOU HAVE A 1972 AND BELOW OR 1973 AND NEWER CAR?

a. 1972 AND BELOW, GO TO #2
b. 1973 AND UP, GO TO #7

2. DO YOU HAVE A:

a. A BODY, GO TO #3
b. B BODY, E BODY WITH A SLANT SIX, GO TO #4
c. B BODY OR E BODY WITH A V8 K-MEMBER, GO TO #5
d. C BODY, GO TO #6

3. TO PUT A BIG BLOCK MOPAR IN AN A BODY CAR, YOU WILL NEED:

a. http://www.bigblockdart.com/techpages/tips.shtml MOTHER OF ALL KNOWLEDGE WHEN IT COMES TO SWAPPING IN A BIG BLOCK
b. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=171821 FOR A GREAT PICTURE LIBRARY AND SUGGESTIONS, KEY SUGGESTION: USE 73-76 K-MEMBER

4. TO PUT A BIG BLOCK MOPAR IN A “B BODY OR E BODY” CAR WITH A /6:

a. FIND A V8 K MEMBER INSTALL IT THEN GO BACK TO NUMBER 2-C OF THIS LIST

5. TO PUT A BIG BLOCK MOPAR IN A 1972 AND BELOW “B BODY” WITH A V8 K-MEMBER:

a. GET BIG BLOCK MOTOR MOUNTS AND BRACKETS
b. ELONGATE YOUR IGNITION COIL WIRE DUE TO DISTRIBUTOR LOCATED IN FRONT OF ENGINE, NOT NEXT TO FIREWALL AS IN SMALL BLOCK CARS (if you are using points, disregard)

8. TO PUT A BIG BLOCK MOPAR IN A “B BODY” CAR WITH A /6:

a. FIND A V8 K MEMBER INSTALL IT THEN GO BACK TO #7-D OF THIS LIST
9. TO PUT A BIG BLOCK MOPAR IN A “B BODY” WITH A SB K-MEMBER:

a. FIRST, MOST IMPORTANT, SUGGESTION IS TO FIND A BIG BLOCK K-MEMBER AND SWAP THE SB K-MEMBER FOR THE BIG BLOCK K-MEMBER
b. IF “a” CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED, BUY BIG BLOCK MOTOR MOUNT BRACKETS
c. IF NO BB K-MEMBER CAN BE FOUND, BUY A SCHUMACHER MOTOR MOUNT SWAP KIT
d. ELONGATE IGNITION COIL WIRE AS THE DISTRIBUTOR IS LOCATED IN THE FRONT ON BB ENGINES, NOT NEXT TO THE FIREWALL AS IN SB APPLICATIONS (if you are using points, disregard)

Don't know for sure but this question is better placed in the general discussion thread or the engine or frame threads. Better response there.

Yes, or any other aftermarket oil-pan suited for a 70 B-body..

Looking to replace slant six with 383 in 70 belvedere, is there a chance i can stay on torsions i have or i need to change them for stronger ones? If so which one do i need?

You can stay on the torsions you have, and if you launch the car, you’ll have some fun lol

He's going to need a V8 K Frame first.

Boy! I have come a long way since Nov of 2014 when I first had the Express. Been a great trip though.

’62-’65 V-8 K-members are the same. If you are doing a Hemi you need a Hemi K-member. You need BB motor mount brackets. The rubber pads are the same. And a BB radiator. If you’re doing a TF and want to keep the push buttons you need a cable shift BB trans. I put a ’66 383 stick engine in a ’64 Dodge wagon with a ’64 A833 with the ’66 bellhousing and I needed to get a little creative with the Z-bar and linkage. If you do the 4 speed be careful of the 2nd to 3rd shift, it’s a knuckle buster even with a Hurst! If you’re using stock exhaust get the ’62-’65 B-Body manifolds. C-body and later B-Body manifolds are different. Don’t forget the transmission driveshaft combination. The ’62-’64 cars use the flanged output shafts. ‘65s use the slip spline. What did I forget?

5. TO PUT A BIG BLOCK MOPAR IN A 1972 AND BELOW “B BODY” WITH A V8 K-MEMBER:

a. GET BIG BLOCK MOTOR MOUNTS AND BRACKETS
b. ELONGATE YOUR IGNITION COIL WIRE DUE TO DISTRIBUTOR LOCATED IN FRONT OF ENGINE, NOT NEXT TO FIREWALL AS IN SMALL BLOCK CARS (if you are usingHE CORRECT OIL PAN #402, #893, #695, OR #854 WITH COINCIDING OIL PICK UP

Great article! I have bookmarked it since I am doing a RB swap in a 1968 Charger 318 car later on this fall. I was going to purchase a conversion mount kit, but won't if I can just purchase big block mounts and brackets. Is there a source that has quality aftermarket stuff?
