Covid 19 / Coronavirus

I work in a mid size hospital in a large city there are maybe 20 available beds. My wife works for a large hospital in the same city. Not certain of beds available there. This virus multiplies faster than the flu. We can not stop it yet. All elective surgeries should be postponed to open more beds. It is not just beds it is beds with med gas provisions, equipment such as IV pumps, ventilators, etc, and the staff who can care for the patients
I do medical equipment repair and service.
The ONLY hospital serving an entire parish (county for the other 49 states) that has a population of about 47,000 people, has 30 total beds, but 1/3rd or 10 of them are ICU. The last time I worked there, about 5 years ago, they only had 7 ventilators.
I've also worked at one of roughly 5 nationwide DHHS warehouses, which has racks of equipment, and the building I worked in was massive, possibly 3 football fields. What I always thought was an overabundance of emergency medical equipment pales in the face of this epidemic, and for all intents and purposes, it's a new strain of flu.
Zombie Apocalypse breakout movies don't seem so far fetched now...

They’re starting to set up tents outside the emergency room areas at the local SoCal hospitals. My wife is a med/surgical nurse and her floor is receiving the Covid-19 patients. She says it’s a major zoo. I worry about her every day....

GOD Bless your wife ,your family and all who are doing the work to save the lives who may need saved.

This makes me wonder.
The Wife and I both had colds in February. Mine was my first in 3 years. I never had a flu shot in my life.
I wasn't dead to the world but I was snotty and low on energy for a weekend.
What if this was "the" virus and we didn't even know it? At that time, all I recall was that it was affecting seniors worse than anyone else.
I've been unable to determine if this is one of those illnesses that you can only get once .
What if it was CV-19 ? How many other people had what they thought was a regular cold and were out doing their regular business?
I have been looking at this from the perspective of How do I avoid getting the infection from others when it could actually be a matter of being one that spreads it unknowingly.
That is a crappy thought.
ToolManMike posted an article that mentions just that: Being one that spreads it without knowing. That is an eye opener. I work on a job outside with about 30-35 people. Some of us share power tools. I wear gloves most of the time, eye protection too. The only people wearing masks are the guys cutting siding.

What if it was CV-19 ?
Then you would have antibodies that would indicate you had it.
Also, as creepy as the thought of your plasma being injected into...anyone is,
:D you have one of the best cures for COVID-19 coursing through your veins, if, in fact, you had it.

With COPD and allergies just changes in the weather can cause most of the symptoms. Just eating the wrong foods can cause the nose to run like a hose and heaven forbid I run out of allergy meds. To me those making light of this are just dam fools. It is a scary time.

Exactly 3B, I'm currently having one of those parent moments when you don't know whether to be proud as F or kidnap our son. Have learned that #1 Son has taken a cot and apparently moved into his local Township office. He is the Communications Director, responsible for all computer/tech etc including all the equipment he's installed over the years that runs both the water filtration and sewer plants throughout the entire township. He is also the Emergency coordinator and not sure he's actually slept in a couple weeks. Another on the front line that better not become a casualty. If you're not taking this Covid matter seriously and are out there spreading it, I'll kill you if it doesn't !

His work definitely qualifies as an "essential service".
There's actually an official list by the federal government giving detailed guidelines for who qualifies as "essential service" personnel:

We are as careful as possible but I am thinking the hand sanitizer needs to be put in my pocket and use it before getting back into the truck. But then the darn bottle would be contaminated anyway. I have one day left of work and the location is as safe as any that is considered essential. All other jobs have been determined nonessential by the locals they are in. After that we will be home bound except for necessities which there will not be many. Keep your hands clean, apply social distancing and only going out into public places when necessary.

I'm not a doctor or medical expert in anyway shape or form but this virus has been said to affect the old and people with under lying problems the young and healthy seem to be ok so that's what Ive come to understand. Now if your old or have under lying problems you know who you are correct? Why has the governments around the world shut down & isolated everybody & not just isolate the group of people it most affects the old & unhealthy. Wouldn't that make more sense instead of going the other route and financially destroying countries, business and livelihoods.

You’re right you’re not an expert....

The parents of the very stupid young people that were on the beaches partying should be ashamed of their kids. Its not weather you will die from it it is weather the person you give it to will die. We all need to be careful and obey the experts, By experts I mean doctors and people with educations that will know more about it.

I can commiserate a tad here...
back in late January, I developed some manner of upper respiratory infection (that's what the diagnosis was anyways); this was right before the COVID-19 stuff hit the MSM.
I wound up at a local urgent care, where they prescribed antibiotics, breathing meds, an x-ray, the usual.
I was over it in about a week, no worries. Just got really hard to breathe for a bit, followed by some blood coughing up (they surmised from "coughing too hard").
Who knows? Could it have been? Nah, probably not. I'm no spring chicken...

P.S. I caught whatever it was in a hospital while my wife was in for some outpatient surgery. They left me in her room to wait, I got bored and well, you know I had to figure out how everything works in there...

horror story.....so..noone but Vital workers right?
how does a plastic plant become Mandatory?

my brother works at a plastic packaging plant.
they make those little white styrofoam Trays for All the meats in supermarkets...
since this started, there has been 5 sick members of his shift.
all 5 were told to come to work no matter what.
anyone that didnt, was charged Vacation time for not showing up.!!
this includes my brother who was sick and was forced to work anyways so as not to lose his job.

soooo...month from now, when you think this virus is over,
buy your meats, any kinds of meats on those little trays.
think of that.
they have infected people working on a production line environment,
cranking out thousands of trays per day,all covered with this virus.
then they get boxed up and shipped out to Your local market,
where people put meat onto these trays and then you buy it and bring it Home.

oh,and they also issued him a Road travel Pass, because the nys cops will pull you over to check you out.
reminds me of Nazi Germany actually.
your papers please !!
