Uncle Tony Finds an Unrestored '63 Dodge Max Wedge!

Sitting around isn't a problem but the way he has that one sitting around sure is. Why would anyone who understands the valve ,either monetary or sentimental leave any possession in that condition . These "car guys" are really the anti-car guys of our hobby. They will never repair nor sell these projects. At the end of my street sits a 1970 Chevelle that i have watched rot into the ground over the last 25 years. Talked to the owner once and he told me that he leaves it in his driveway uncovered because he "Gets a kick out of young guys stopping by asking if it's for sale". The car is now so bad the driveway is rust stained all around the car. You would think the guy feels like an *** for doing this but no, their it sits to this day, ruined. ( I mean it's just a Chevelle so who gives a **** but still) This guy in the video will have the same end results.Sad

VERY TRUE...
"Uncle Tony" and his buddy "shoes" exhibit the exact same attitude as you noted. Why not sell the car and parts and but the money in the stock market (now is a great time to buy selectively) rather than watch it turn to nothing.....but perhaph they just don't understand....???

Nothing takes a car body out faster than sitting in the dirt.More so in damp dirt and weeds.

Doubt it.I think Tony is a New Yorker. Sounded like the 'ol boy in the shoes would never let it go.
Tony was a New Yorker. He now resides in Tennessee near Nashville.
I believe it was stated somewhere in the video that the owner of the car would not sell it or let it go. He is collecting parts to restore it. Outside is not the place I would leave it! Neither here or there. I don’t see the car owner or Tiny as anti car in anyway shape or form. Unless your one of those guys that has to see every car restored, numbers matching or as close as possible and mint...

I have a Mopar buddy that some years back finally restored his 67 Hemi GTX he took it to 1 car show then parked it in an enclosed pole barn, under a car cover, the floor was limestone gravel. Fast forward 3-4 years. The one day he pulls the cover off to find: Mice had destroyed the interior , the replated bumpers were rusting, as was parts of the car, the carbs would not even run.

It's really a pretty cool find to come across a car like that and I would be excited to go see it as Tony was. The reason it's cool is because it give guys like me ( and you) hope that there is still stuff like that out there to be found and seen. I understand the owner said he wasn't interested in selling and either would I. That being said ,to leave a car or anything for that matter in that condition to rot back to the earth is plain sad. Look at it in the video, leaves and crap packed in the trunk gutters ( Have you ever had the joy of replacing those?) and laying all over the car. That guy doesn't give a **** about that car. It's really not about having to have a perfectly restored car, it's more about the car ever being able to be enjoyed by anyone ever again in any form or condition. Finding something that has been saved from the ravages of time and can be used again is the real "find". Finding something that rotted into the ground ,wasted due to lack of understanding ,caring doesn't sound like the actions of a "car guy" to me. To each his own. I don't see "pride in ownership" being displayed with that guy. P.S. Universal truths= A man wearing work boots and riding a ten speed bike in guaranteed to have at least 1 d.u.i. A man wearing dirty *** loafers instead of work boots is most likely a **** rat guaranteed.

Sad deal. The car is disintegrating where the frame will be gone aside from everything else if not already. I made the mistake of parking the 1st car I restoed with my dad at my wife's father's back garage outside for about 14 months with no other place to keep it out of the way then. Complete total error! I couldn't believe how quickly it went further to **** in that time and it was still on its tires not sunk into the ground. I don't like parking on grass at some car shows. Bad recollections of what parking on unpaved areas do to a car.

I’d say he is not a smart car guy OR he lacks a facility to store the car. IMO, you judge to harshly and without knowing anything except what you see in the video.

To say he (Uncle Tony or "shoes") is not a smart guy is a gross understatement. To allow a unique vehicle to deterriorate is unconscionable. To reiterate, "a picture is worth a thousand words" and "what you see is what you get" definitely applies and in this case is zero.

I never said Tony or Mr. Mystery shoe guy wasn’t smart.
Just the action of leaving the car outside.
Please show me where I did. Otherwise your just putting words in my mouth.

I say stop wasting time waiting to restore, anything.
Just make it roadworthy and safe and drive the heck out of it, dammit.

People always ask me if/when I'm going to paint it or restore it.
My response is always the same, it's done.
Then I sit on the hood with the kid and eat my burger and fries.

I was hoping to see the data plate. The lightweight bulletin is dated March 6 and they announce that all cars will get the battery in the trunk. I think Don Owens' car was built second week of March and it still had the battery in front. My car was built April 19 and has the battery in the trunk. Two 3447 carbs came with my car. One is a 3447S dated May '62 and what I believe is date correct for my car a 3447SA dated March '63. I was wondering if MR. Shoes had the original block in the trunk with all those parts.

Matthon, I too am way passed the number match perfect car. I have more fun with a beater/drive anywhere, that won't ever get a parking lot shot, scratch or dent. And if it did, who cares ?

Because you need 40 Gs at one time and maybe Mr. Shoes doesn't have it. That said, maybe if he sold everything off he might have 40 Gs!

Agreed.^^ When my brother died I sold off his stash(along with 14 dump truck loads of scrap).
We handed my sister-in-law over 100 grand. She thought it was all just hoarder junk.
