Looking to change bearings in my alternator in the not too far future. It appears to be original style alternator for a '71 B Body. Does anyone know what the bearing part numbers are before I pull it apart. Not being in the US I like to check availability of local spares before I start a job.

They are available on Rockauto.com. You can cross reference the part numbers to what's available locally

hmm.... rock auto some goood chineese bearings

Not always bad parts....have to do the research and see what brands they offer. They sell Timken bearings on there and other American stuff.....just gotta be choosey on what you grab from their site.

Going from memory (and thats getting worse everyday) the front bearing should be 6203-2RSJ and the rear should be MNJ471-S.

Rock has both bearings available from SKF, and also has Timken available for the rear

I agree...
The drive end bearing is the 6203-2rs SKF, NTN, FAFNIR, RBC are fine..6203 is the basic number and 2 RS J means single row, double shielded and sealed ball bearing and the opposite end bearing (brush end) is usually a Tortington or Fafnir or McGill caged needle bearing with a seal the MNJ471-S (seal) or equal is a good number. Just be careful when pressing the caged needle bearing into the housing to support the housing to keep it from cracking and pressing the bearing in to prevent the rollers from falling out and damaging the seal. I always added a small amount of of synthetic grease to the bearing before assembling the alternator.
