fast & take out food and the virus

Look, bottom line is people who don't exhibit symptoms are NOT being tested for the virus.
That means the existence of the possibility of there being "carriers " out there potentially spreading the virus
unknowingly.
That part, admittedly, scares the **** out of me.

See, here's the thing, at least with me...
We were out for our regular weekly store trip today (yes, thank GOD in the GTX!) and I was observing
some pretty overzealous hand sanitizing at both stores, both on myself and on he shopping buggies.
Even had the wife hosing down my hands with her little spray bottle sanitizer, too.

All the while, we're doing the usual small town socializing chit chat with folks and I'm having some
fun with it all - but it occurred to me halfway through that I was actually concerned; I had read so
much, kept up so closely with the daily reports, stats, etc. on the virus that it had altered my own
behavior.

My humor and joking around with fellow locals had an actual point to it - if someone got a little close,
I'd lightly joke with 'em but the humor had the underlying point of "you're in my space, back up a tad please."
We're in a county that's only had two positive tests on folks, so there is that assurance of the odds, but...
and I'm in the habit of frequent hand washing anyways, having worked in the "skunk water" that exists
in fire sprinkler systems all my adult life + always seemingly working on something mechanical around here, but...

You have bought into the hype.
It IS being blown out of proportion.
Your entire response here is biased and easily refuted.
I'm not taking it seriously. I feel fine.
Not everyone will be infected. Not all that DO get infected will die from it.
I agree not everyone will get sick but someone as myself that has elderly parents i do worry as I'll probably be ok but it's not just about me

I don't have a problem with people washing their hands or staying a comfortable distance from me. I do find it disappointing to see people worry so much.

I'm guilty of making light of those so easily panicked, too - but....
I suppose it depends on where you are.
If one lives in a known hot spot like NY, it's logical to have heightened concern, for example.
That being said...I'm not in such an area and folks here are a little more relaxed + there seems
to be a bit more down to earth "horse sense" here as well.
Folks aren't as easily herded into group panic; they're used to fending for themselves anyways
and LIKE IT. :)

I agree with you, KD - this country willingly handed over all manner of liberties , rolled over and did what
we were told, to "go home" and self-quarantine.
Nary a whimper, no shots fired - we've done exactly what we've been told to do and the world changed
overnight to what it is now.
Now, we're all going to get "free" money sent to us to tide us over, too - with plenty of strings attached
and pork in the bill, too.
The economy has been severely stunted in the process.

To me - that all was too easy and that, above any virus concerns, scares me more than anything.
The "cure" has been far worse for the country than the disease.

I do have the luxury of NOT being imbedded among a large number of sick people. I'm not a worrier by nature though. The ship could be sinking and I'd still be looking for a way to plug the leak.

The part that scares me is that we don't know if the body develops anti-bodies
against the virus.

It does. They are even useing people's plasma that have been infected and are now well for transfusions for ones that are sick. It's just been done recently. Good news!

A Doctor on the radio on Thursday said that you cannot get this twice.

Many cities have self quarantined to protect everyone. Giving up nothing but ignorance and imaginary fear of a conspiracy. I live in NYS, believe me, arrogance and ignorance can end you life.

What I've learned over the years is that Americans talk about freedom, liberty, rights, etc. But when push comes to shove, it's clear that the people aren't really interested in having freedom, or the liberty and rights with it; rather they truly want safety and comfort. Many people confuse freedom with safety and comfort, but they're not the same thing. If anything, they're completely opposite ideas. And that is why the basic freedom to walk outside of your house was so easily given up.

Be that as it may, whether you believe that there's a pandemic going on or not, the world will be forever changed by what is going on now. For example, why would businesses spend millions of dollars on rent, leases, overhead; when everyone's learning that some workers can just as easily work from home. Me, the professional burger flipper, foresee that the trend to visit traditional sit-down restaurants will permanently lose ground to take-out, third party delivery, quick service places. Sports? Movies? Why bother going to an arena or a theater to see an event when you can just stream it from home, since this virus is teaching us just how easy and arguably safer it is to entertain ourselves that way.

Even if we bounce back from this soon, the world will be changed permanently, and in a lot of ways that I'm not sure will be great for all of us...

I work every weekday as I am self employed, and noticed I have had fewer walk-ins. Last Monday I got a lot of work done as no one came in, Tues maybe one, Wed-Fri maybe up to six each day. I keep my distance, wash my hands quite often, and don't shake hands anymore. I have always washed my hands when handling money or cards, and regularly get kidded about it. I do realize that people are getting sick, and dying, but they did from the flu an other illnesses too. I also think it is being blown way out of proportion. The came common sense applied to other illnesses should apply here too. I also live in an area that is not so populated, and when you drive around, things look normal for the most part. Hell, we went out to breakfast this morning even if it was brought to the truck.

Some of you sound like my F-in-Law that won't come home from Florida, he told my wife today that is was all lies and the tent treatment and morge they set up in NYC is "file footage"... Oh well, I've got 2 million in partnership insurance on him...

I don't know that any of this is exactly "new", honestly.
I see this whole "instant panic" pandemic as a means to merely accelerate what has been trending in society
anyways, really - and yes, no doubt some of those in power are using it for just exactly that, the adding to the ranks
of the easily herded people-sheep.
Classic socialism. Gov't as daddy-protector-provider.

That all leads me to the next step in that process, of course - the inevitable conflict.
I'm not going to get into all that, but not being reported is the mobilizing of military reserves and the forming
of states' fast-mobilization "anti-civil unrest" sorts of groups like the one just announced this week in my state:
https://www.tn.gov/governor/news/20...qDgtd59tuwCdDF8zLI_BEZGWorGkIZy1hlaBGAzx60yew
Notice who they put in charge of that group - an ex-spec ops guy.
They know this state is full of rednecks better armed than they are and they're obviously gearing up to potentially
enforce something...

This might not end quietly - and I will be on the noisy end of things if it doesn't, I'll guarantee that.

From what I'm seeing in the news, Florida is locking down pretty hard now.
They're a hotspot in all this, after all...
Lots of the NY folks have been high-tailing it down that way to escape their own states' version of Marshal Law.
Ironically, they may be running right into another lockdown.

Last week, there were a quarter million people in the world diagnosed with the coronavirus. This Thursday, it was 500,000. Today, it's over 664,000.

A lot of stores around me won't accept cash these days. I cook our own meals lately...

Just look to Italy if you think this is all made up. They’re burning down over there. They don’t have enough room to bury their dead.

When the fridge and freezer start getting low.. I've already been eyeballing the back yard squirrels and setting the sights. Can't decide on Black or Grey first...
Shoot the males first but leave two alive, just in case one gets run over with a car, so the females can have more young ones for you to eat later.
