looking to replace my shocks on the 70 Bee. Should I just buy from Auto Zone? Not for racing but want a good ride. thanks Dave

I just bought off the shelf Monroes for both the Bee and the Bird and both ride just fine.. Bird didn't even drop the front right on the track at Atlanta.

I've been using Bilsteins and been happy with them. Used KYB's before that, and they do ride rough like stated above. PST has decent pricing on the Bilsteins after the 10% FBBO member discount.

I have Bilsteins in 3 vehicles.
2015 Challenger R/T (OEM)
2007 Ram 1500....after trying a few other brands.
1970 Charger. These are the BEST shocks that I have tried for a classic car. Not cheap but they do work.

I put KYB Excel G shocks on my '73 Charger and I'm pleased with them. The '69 Coronet has KYB Gas adjust shocks and I don't like them, rough riding.

Anyone using, or have any thoughts/recommendations on “Gabriel Classics”......thanks Jim

Gabriels were popular in the 70s and 80s.
People that have grown accustomed to firmer riding, better handling modern cars may find that anything other than a performance shock delivers a ride too soft for their liking.

Bilsteins on all the Mopars. 69 06 09. They put them on the Hellcats.

I've installed the Gabriel and found them to be about the same as Monroe.Works for me !

As I've mentioned before, I use Monroe Super 500s all around on my RS23V0A******. They have a larger piston size, shaft, along with more restricted valving and a higher slightly higher viscosity fluid resulting in a very firm ride, which, some may say is harsh, but I really like the result. Excess road bumps are best absorbed by my generous gluteus maximus..... The Super 500 shocks are available on line as NOS, but you may have to look for them....priced similar to KYB or Gabriel Red Riders are an OK alternate.

I used those blue Monroe shocks once. I put them on in the fall one year, rode ok. parked the car for the winter. While I was prepping the car for spring noticed one of the shocks started leaking. Checked the other 3 sure enough none of them had any gas charge left in them. I had old oil filled shocks work better than the blue Monroes. Maybe had 200 miles on them. Waste of money in my opinion. I have kyb on it now, yes its a firm ride, but its better than a baby buggy ride thats not safe.

FYI...
The Monroe Super 500 shocks have not been made for years, but can be found on line. The Monroe "Blue" shocks you referenced are NOT the same thing. The Super 500s were developed for the NASCAR racing venue for the 500 mile circuit. The more common variety were/are the Monroe-matic design, probably gas charged to compete with KYB. But, like anything, you pay your money and take your choice.

I was not trying to reference the Super 500s that you posted about. I have never heard of them until I read your initial post.
My intentions were to reference the original post about the common parts store "Blue " Monroe shocks .

Just trying to help others that might go to their local parts store or buy online the Monroe "Blue" shocks thinking they are decent shocks ...for me they weren't, they were a complete waste of money.

Thank you for your post....I was not trying to inniate another controversy, rather just than add some additional information and perhaps an alternative.
Since you are not too far away, perhaps we will meet at a local cruise sometime this summer....if we all get thru this Covid19 issue.
