How Much better is The Irishman? I thought the movie was horrid and I typically love mob flicks. I’d go for,the book if it’s a page turner - the movie was just poorly done. I know it’s up for an Oscar but I hated it. Usually really love a cast like they had but......
I also thought the movie wasn't all that great, im glad to see im not the only one who shares that opinion.
The book however is very good and goes into much more detail as books often do. Im betting you will really like the book.
Before the movie "The Godfather" came out, someone gave me the book. Through the years ive talked to people who still to this day talk about that movie and it is of course a classic but many never have read the book. I tell them get the book and read it, they will enjoy it and makes the movie even more enjoyable

Yeah, Reacher is always a good read. If your into benevolent alien intervention you might try Vera Nazarian's Atlantis Grail series. It's about Earth sitting smack in the path of a planet wrecking asteroid. The aliens, who are previously unknown to humans, make themselves known after attempting everything to divert the rock themselves. They are the descendants of Ancient Atlanteans of Earth. Here's the synopsis:
QUALIFY
You have two options. You die, or you Qualify.

The year is 2047. An extinction-level asteroid is hurtling toward Earth, and the descendants of ancient Atlantis have returned from the stars in their silver ships to offer humanity help.

But there's a catch.

They can only take a tiny percent of the Earth’s population back to the colony planet Atlantis. And in order to be chosen, you must be a teen, you must be bright, talented, and athletic, and you must Qualify.

Sixteen-year-old Gwenevere Lark is determined not only to Qualify but to rescue her entire family.

Because there's a loophole.

If you are good enough to Qualify, you are eligible to compete , on Atlantis, in the brutal games of the Atlantis Grail, which grants all winners the laurels, high tech luxuries, and full privileges of Atlantis Citizenship. And if you are in the Top Ten, then all your wildest wishes are granted… Such as curing your mother’s cancer.

There is only one problem.

Gwen Lark is known as a klutz and a nerd. While she's a hotshot in classics, history, science, and languages, the closest she's come to sports is a backyard pool and a skateboard.

This time she is in over her head, and in for a fight of her life, against impossible odds and world-class competition—including Logan Sangre, the most amazing guy in her school, the one she's been crushing on, and who doesn’t seem to know she exists.

Because every other teen on Earth has the same idea.

You Qualify or you die.

If you like time travel then try the OUTLANDER series by Diana Gabaldon. So wildly popular they have been made into a TV series. Here's the scoop....

After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. While visiting an ancient ring of standing stones she realizes that she can HEAR them. She tentatively lays her outstretched hand against the biggest one and suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humour. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives. `Outlander' is adapted from the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon.

Lots of fighting and dying in this one gents....oh, and hot steamy sex as well...

And why are Tom Clancy books soooo blasted thick? You can't read non-stop. I know I told you about Lee Child!!!!

Right?! His books are so thick because he research's every damn little detail and includes it in the story, which I hate. So the plane drops a bomb. I don't need to know the Mil designation, the acronym, the yield of the thing. I just want to know if it hit the target and killed it. He goes on for paragraphs about this ****. Who the hell cares? Move the blasted story along for Gods sakes! The books that I find to be page turners are always those with a tight story that hits 6th gear right out of the gate, from a standing start, and gains speed right till the last page and has a twisted surprise for you when you arrive. You should set a just read book down on the table and suddenly realize it's 3 in the morning and you need to pee badly and haven't eaten anything or had a drink for the last 6 hours. THAT'S a good book.

I read this book when I was about fourteen. It was a page-turner that I reread several times at different stages of life.
It is about a man alone on a vacation of sorts that comes back home to find 99.9% of the population gone from an unknown disease. (the disease is not the topic).
What it did for me is instill a strong desire to become resourceful and independent.
