Can anyone tell me how to get the gas tank out of a 65 Plymouth Belvedere II wagon? I have the J bolt out, unscrewed the filler neck from the top filler, axle and leaf springs are out and it just wiggles in place? I can't seem to move it forward. So before I really try to force it I figure I would ask first before I do any damage.
Thanks

Have you unhooked the fuel line?
Mike

Yup, it's capped off and I got the sending unit wire off.

I don't know if there is an access panel I'm missing. I looked behind the tail light but nothing there.

Does the filler neck come out with the tank, or does it need to stay put to get the tank out?

I have a 64 wagon, never had the tank out, but on my a-body I could never get the tank out with the filler neck.

You have to pull the filler neck completely out. I used a pair of big channel lock pliers and try to spray lubricant or WD-40 around outside of filler neck as it's in a rubberseal in tank I did put tape on filler neck so not to mark it

Be sure to replace the rubber grommet where the fill tube goes into the tank.

How do I get access to the filler neck? I took the 3 screws out at the filler cap. I removed the tailgate to see if there was an access panel but no go.

I got the filler neck out just a hair and sprayed WD40 behind it. Just letting it soak for a bit before I try it again.

The tank is out. What a headache. Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it. Now I had to tell my wife that she won't have her wagon this summer. What a can of worms I opened. Until this pandemic is over we really don't want to spend money other than necessities for now so I guess I might start cutting out all the rust. Get it ready for new floors.
