What kind of wrench are you using?

I was going to weld a 7/16 socket to a long bar. This way I have leverage yet the stretch gauge can still fit through to the bolt.

OR am I over thinking it. lol

Pretty sure the stretch happens at torque spec.

The stretch begins as tightening starts. The vid points out that we should start low & check with gauge to see when you've gotten into the recommended range. I'd sure check a few.

Lubing each one exactly the same if doing it that way with clean perfect threads
If you own a stretch gauge use a good box end and the stretch gauge and forget the torque wrench

I've stretched mine. Tough on BB to get in there. I made a long 7/16" wrench an ruined it. torque values to get dead on stretch vary all over the map. One torque value WILL NOT stretch all bolts the same. Last tie around i used torque angle. The stretch was very close. Used my buddy's electronic Snap on wrench that records angle and torque value. Torque numbers were much more consistent.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input.

The last time I built the motor I did what Doug did and cut up a box end wrench. It worked fair at best. I had initially intended to go the T-A way but the cheap *** $100.00 Eastwoods wrench would over stretch the bolts, and I wasn't going to buy a $600.00 Snap on, just wouldn't use it enough to justify it.

Thanks again guys!
