I currently have a 1100 Dominator on my 511 and the fuel system seems sufficient with a 160gph pump, pumping 2 gallons in a minute after the regulator equaling 120gph. Would this be enough fuel flow for a tunnel ram set up? Thanks

What size fuel line from the tank? You would need 3/8" or 1/2" to avoid starvation at max rpm, the factory 5/16" may not be enough.

I have a -8 line to the regulator, -8 return and a -8 from reg to carb.

.5 lb of fuel/HP/hr is the number you need. 2 carbs are actually easier. They have more bowl capacity. Keeps them from running dry longer. Single Quadrajet is the toughest.

I remember reading that it was easier to keep two holleys on a tunnel ram fed, than a big single four barrel. Twice as many needles and seats, twice as many fuel bowls to keep reserve fuel in
Edit: dangit, Doug beat me by a minute AGAIN!.

Looks like 350#/hr with 700hp. I’ll have to reduce that to 10 seconds. Thanks guys

I use to run an ol' Holley blue pump 120gph
& 1) dual port bypass reg.
with -8 AN to the 10 micron filter, then to the pump, then to the reg,
(IIRC a -6 AN return)
all Holley parts, Russel hoses/fittings
1) 90* fitting out of the pickup,
the rest sharpest turn 'elbow' fitting was a 45*
seemed to flow better than when it had a few more 90* fittings
it was 2 x 660cfm
(polished knife edged blades, shallow screws, carbs flowed like 710cfm each)
center squirters/Tunnel ram carbs, all 8 barrels opening at once
seemed ok, it was on a LS7 468cid BBC ran into the high 8's
made in the neighborhood of 900hp, back in the 80's
seemed good even thru the lights,
IIRC never dropped below 6psi

I'd set them at 7psi flowing, Vinton needle & seats...

bought & carried a new Blue pump for a spare
& changed them out regularly, just to be safe

before I went to my sponsors ERC/CNC billet pump stuff,
precursor to the Barry Grants pumps

Gee Bud, you must have been right on the edge for 1 Blue pump. In those days I ran 2 Blue pumps on 2x650 DP tunnel, not for added flow, but reliability. Switched to a single Mallory 140. Plenty of flow there.

yeah I'm sure it was too...
never burned anything up, fuel volume wise anyway

I kind of cheated, had a smaller return line #6
seemed to keep the fuel in the bowls
most the time they recommended the same size return line as feed

when the bigger pumps started coming out (like the Barry Grants)
I ran CNC pumps, with #10-#12 feed no 90's,
only straight, Y's or 45's fully flowed, chamfered & an #8-#10 return
they would produced 2-3-4 time as much fuel as I ever needed,
even with 1300+hp NA
even for dual 1350 cfm with bowl extensions
or even 4) x 2bbl 700+cfm 'split dominators'
most of it, all bypassed back to the cell,
IMO that was the critical setting
I always ran the float bowl levels a tad higher levels
(like 2 flats more -higher- after it flowed out of the float site level ports or
bottom of the glass sites, to make up for more demand when running WOT
)
than Holley, BG or QA1 recommended too
also really need to have good extended longer vent tubes
or hose between the 2 vents per carb, with a 1/2" notch cut in, it's middle

I always set my stuff regulator/s (bypasses & pressures) flowing,
never static or deadheaded, still do even on my street-strip cars today
