You see some CRAZY things on the golf Course!

I have never played golf. I guess I am not old enough yet. I do own a golf cart though, so I guess that is a good start....

The only way I could get that ball to go a 100 yards is if I drove it there in my car. Never played the game..... But I would like my balls washed, gently............

One of our top engineers (I work for Titleist golf) told me when he was in Malaysia the monkeys would jump out of the trees, take your golfball and run back up.

In Florida the younger alligators will steal the golf balls for the same reason they go after fishing bobbers. The bottoms are white and balls are white.
People feed baby alligators marshmallows.

Playing golf around my area and then playing in the south and the SW involves more 'hazards'. Ya don't just go into the the boundaries like brush and trees to snag your ball for concern of snakes and other nasty critters. One time in southern Bama I hit my ball that landed some 15 feet from a creek and was happy to see I'd have a nice pitch to the green...ahh but as I got closer it was a foot or so from a monstrous snake hiding well in the grass. Nope that shot wasn't gonna be as easy as I thought and while golf has too many friggin rules as it is, not sure about how the rules address this...

Biggest non-tarantula spider I've ever seen was at a golf course, it was the size of my hand and scary-lookin'... Big mofo! I've seen lightning blow up a transformer, performed cpr on an old guy in the group ahead of us that keeled over on the 14th tee, been harassed by a flock of wild turkeys on the back nine...good times

My local Gold Course, where I used to be a member, has a Par 3 facing East. It's a gentle uphill fairway....and only about 113m (123yds) and the Stroke 18 hole. I have played there on days when there are extremely strong Easterly winds - the wind whips up the cliff face, and flows over the fairway (from the top of the picture and towards the tee). Believe me, that wind can be vicious. I have seen many good players use a 3-Wood and still not make the green. Sometimes just standing still is a challenge. And because the deck of the Clubhouse looks over the green, making a bad shot can get a lot of applause or abuse...depending on who is playing. :D

Hit a few balls over the years and well, I'm better at hitting them with a baseball bat! The Jr. college down the road used to have a pretty nice 9 hole course but not anymore because they built a really nice oil tech building on one end of that land that opened less than a year ago. I'm betting it's pretty useless now. Used to get all of my 'practice' balls from across the road from so many slicing off the T-box. There's a big county flood control ditch that's about 50 ft from the road and have found plenty of balls on the banks of it....BOTH banks! The course has been closed for over 2 years now and there's still about 50 or more balls in my bucket.

Haven't played in the last 6 or 7 years as other projects including my Plymouth have kept me occupied. It is a time commitment thinking of how long it takes to play even nine holes if the course is busy. Then there are the too frequent ******** who are in a big hurry behind you; but never in front of you. One time while waiting in the fairway to hit my shot to the green, was waiting until the group ahead got off the green...naturally, and it was a slow round anyway waiting to hit the next shot, and then as I finally got to get set up to hit a ****-wad on the tee starts screaming at me 'hit the damn ball'! Well *******-hey I got pissed and reset myself to hit my ball back to him and yelled 'fore!" for their well being. They gawked at me seeing I was gonna hit toward them and they ducked behind their cart and I smacked the ball toward them. After the round was in the clubhouse having a beer and one of the guys in the group came over to me and I thought ok here goes a yelling contest or maybe worse and he apologized for the antics of his asshole partner as he said he was half in the bag. Another time I was a loner playing in with three old ladies, nice-nice old gals; but they hit the ball 50 yards...they'd get impatient with me while waiting to hit a shot 150 yards to the green wondering why I don't hit! Well there were a lot of fun times over the years but for some reason now don't miss it with other stuff to do like car shows...

I rarely play much now, I still love the game
unfortunately I have other priorities in my life
& I don't live next to a (or 2) great golf course now either...

I will admit I'm a little bit of a golf snob now, not in a bad way...
I just prefer good & long courses, well manicured, challenging
but;
I can play anywhere with almost anyone, if need be, too...

I org. thought golf was stupid, an old persons game...
As I watched my dad or granddad get dressed (made fun of them)
in some (what I thought at the time) goofy outfit, polyester shirt etc.
(they are goofy still, now in my mind :poke: )
He was never even, that good either...
Sometimes I wondered why did he even play ?

I was a ill-informed & opinionated, Track & football snob or baseball guy...
Golf was stupid (so I thought)

----------------------------------------------------------
added edited;
I really got interested & playing golf regularly...
When I had to wait for our day, for qualifying at the track...
I needed something to do on wed. & thur. usually...
I asked one of my racing buddies...
"what do you guys do on off days ?"
he said; we go golfing, you should come out with US
I said; na', I've golfed I didn't find it all that fun...
he said; we don't just play golf, we have fun
so I said; wtf, I'll go with them & give it a chance...
The next thing you know, I was the best guy in the group...
All my buds said you should start keeper your scores, you're good
& I should really get a handicap, start playing tournaments etc....
wallah all of a sudden;
I got hooked & started making custom fit clubs, for all my buds & myself...
I got really good at the game too & started a golf business & entered
really competitive tournaments....

(anyone need irons & woods ?, I got a dozen new old stock custom sets, PM me)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

a 3hr walk in a beautiful park/outdoors setting
(where I played anyway, even many public courses are too)
spoiled/ruined by a stupid seemingly easy & frustrating game
that's extremely hard to be good at & keep it up

those that haven't golfed & knock it
should try it with people they like, it's a lot more than just a game
it teaches so much about yourself & dealing with all types of people
sometimes it's a little piece of heaven & sometimes it's hell
go out & have fun, be polite & worry about score later

many that criticize it are either bad or haven't ever even tried
or aren't the type to take a breath & enjoy life
enjoy being outside in a tranquil setting (usually)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A-typical duffer (casual golfer) hacker, thinks he's better than he really is
that can't shoot less than 100 legitimately, but turns in 89 score cards
vanity handicapper, as they are known as (usually wound to tight)
great person to bet with/against :D

all while out on the course
stupid freaken' game, stupid freaken' little ball, stupid freaken' flag,
stupid freaken' greens, stupid freaken' grass, stupid freaken' bunkers,
stipid freaken' clubs, stupid freaken' carts, stupid freaken' people...

then the same guy Makes a Hole in 1,
Man I love this game, it's the best game in the world,
what's our tee-time tomorrow ?

Hitting slow players in front of me has happened a few times. A friend I was playing with one day in London, peeled off a great tee shot one day....we thought it was veering well away from the guys in front. But then it started turning. Mark said "Should we shout out?" Nah...she'll be right....two seconds later we were all screaming out "FORE!!!!" The ball hit one guy in the carry bag - and he had the bag over his shoulder. Without the bag, he would have been hit between his shoulders for sure. We laughed about it....the guy who got hit laughed also....but his friends were keen on a punch-up muid game. It got ugly for a few seconds. :D

I nearly took out my partners legs one day - he was hiding behind trees, then stupidly stepped out in front of me. I had just launched a real high speed "Daisy cutter" of a shot - quite efficient on a windy day...never got above knee height. He got a little pissed at me....kept yapping about it all day...I bought him a beer afterwards...still yapping about it. I think Dementia got him in the end. :D

Oh the joy of hitting a perfect shot on a par 3, only to watch the ball slope upwards to pure vertical, continue straight up, and then hang there briefly before falling backwards in the direction of the yay-hoo with the club in his hands...golfing in the wind sucks almost as bad as riding a bike in it!

I knew I wasn't good at golf. The first time to even hit a ball was in high school and even back then, I could see how much practice it was going to take. Never have been one for instant gratification but there were so many other things that took much less time to be good at. I don't knock the game but certain things frustrate me and become unenjoyable and golf is one of them plus I saw how much money and time it was going to take to be good. As for spending 3 hours walking through a well manicured park......rather be surfing! Never was very good at basketball either plus it was plain too much running and football was too brutal. Wasn't tall enough for basketball and wasn't big enough for football but baseball I liked. Never had a good mentor so it took me longer to learn some stuff as a kid but it was something that I really liked doing.

I got nuts playing the game for some years as my dad was a golf nut and taught me a lot about the game. He was pretty good, around an 8 capper, and my intent was to get as good as he was. He brought me in as a substitute player on his company league and always played together in the outings. We had some great times as I developed a better game and have fond memories of some great rounds we played together. Every friggin time I managed to play a great round dang if my pop didn't edge me out by a few strokes. I recall a round shooting 81, a great score for me, and sheeit, he manages a 79! He always wanted to play for a little money saying it added some spice. Only time where I eventually edged him out was when age caught up with him and was sorry to see; well he was 37 when I was born. The most fun have to say was when he normally clocked me. Those memories are burned in my head as my dad is gone now many years, and wish I could be back out on the course with him again edging me out. A nice thing about this game is spending time with a loved one or buddy where you chit-chat about things and then get back to how things go with the game at hand. Hours of time together mixed with the fun of competition and a few beers - nothing like it. My dad and I had a lot of nice memories restoing a car the 1st one I tackled that woulda been too much for me alone as a rookie. Blessed to have a nice-talented pop!

I have always come under par at every Putt-Putt course I have ever played.
