Have always enjoyed the Rat Rod culture. Love looking at the cars and the ideas and creativity on those crazy machines.

The comfort and ride quality of an E-body is like a Rolls Royce compared to most all rat rods.
My buddy builds custom trucks with air ride. They are very smooth but other than the patina paint they are far from a rat rod.

those are cool, air ride is something I always was intreaged with, full blown rat rods are cool but some definatley take it to the level of, lets say different. thinking of building something inbetween that and a drag car

I like the Rat Rod deal but when the whole patina thing took off I just don't get it. People had cars like that because they couldn't afford to have them painted. Now they are painting them like that on purpose. And not cheaply I'm sure. I have to laugh at the shiny clear coated ones! If I'm going through the time and money to build something its going to be finished well.

Gray was a favorite on mine reading HR as a kid and teen. I still hold him in high regard. I didn't know that he coined the term "rat rod" as it is now commonly applied. Thanks for the link!

Never cared for them. Don't expect every car to pristine but some take the junker thing to far but it's their car. Or whatever.

Not sure if my caddy will fall into rat rod or hot rod ! Probably got rod
I'm putting satin black paint on it 3" chop remove 10" out of rear doors weld what's left solid .add 7" to fronts remove other 3" out if the car all together. Suicide front doors put air ride on car custom hood ord. I'm making out of a dagger.....

Black car is the photo shop rendering of what we're working towards but is satin black

I don't think its a fad. They are just acknowledging that the cars that are not done or that people don't have the time/funds/knowledge to fix up are cool also. Nothing wrong with that.

I like the effort they put into some cars that probably would never see the road again. Alot of talented folks out there with great imaginations as well. Are able to bring life to something that would be scrap in most cases.

some real "innovated builds"
'some' are just rusty ol' clap traps too,
glamming on to the "Rat Rod" trends/fads

I think of "some" of the well/better built cars,
as like the ol' original Hot Rods craze of the late 40's & early 50's
were looked at/thought of, as assemblages of old parts
making them runners, "rebels" outside the norm/noncompliant...

here's a pro-mod made to look like a
clapped out ol' rat rod

It might look like old junk put together, but this thing ran nice and looks nice to me.

hada 73 bug in the 80's a v-8 would be a rocketship, a scary one.

I love the rat rod culture. My wife and I go to quite a few shows.
Here we are dressed up at one of the shows. My convert isn't a rat rod but they let us in. We tried for the 50s 60s look.
