My engine has been broken in & dynode, so it's paint and all the rest to finish it for install. Can anyone recommend a Mini Starter ? My engine is a pump gas, so not high compression, street/strip set up. Would like one that has good reviews from some of you that have used them, Thanks...

They usually run about $160 give or take. Most all are about the same. I have been using auto part store 2000 Dodge Dakota
V8 starters. I have bought a Summit brand that was a good price and worked well too.

I've had good luck with the ones DB Electrical sells. Around $60.

This.
Just go to your local parts jobber and ask for a 1995 Dakota (magnum engine) starter. Rebuilt ones will run you about $60 or so. Be sure to remove the "terminal extension" or you'll have problems with installation.

Hi,
I’ve been using the: summit protorque stater (SUM-820337) for about 2 years now and it still works amazing.
I haven’t used any other ones so I do not really have anything to compare it to.

Another vote for the Mopar (Nippondenso) "Dakota" starter (V6 or V8, same starter).
Pick one up cheap at one of the box auto parts stores rebuilt with a lifetime warranty.
The one on my GTX's 440 is over a decade old and still throws that monster over easily -
and if it ever lays down, hey, FREE replacement for life.

Denso, got a good deal from Dave at Roseville. Got to be in there 10 years by now

I had nothing but trouble with the cheaper ones. Finally bought a Promaster and problems solved. It was pricey I think about $230 if I recall.

If you can try to get one made by Denso ( Maryville ,Tn.) Very well made. I got mine through Summit, fits with TTI headers no problem. They call it Protorque starter part # Sum-820337 . It's a Denso mini starter with 1.9 hp , 4 to 1 gear reduction. Not too cheap but a great starter foe $173.99

I must say i was quite surprised to see how much clearance i had between the 440source mini starter and the TTI headers.
I did not feel the need to add some insulation around the starter to prevent heat soak.
My old headers (unknown brand) and original starter were very close and even with that i never had issues with heat soak on the starter.

I’m using a Robbmc mini.
It wasn’t cheap (300 bucks), but it’s made in the USA by Americans.
It’s a really nice starter. You can index it however you want and the terminals aren’t right up on the pan rail.
Sure, you can buy a remanufactured parts store starter and get a lifetime warranty. I just like quality stuff and am not interested in removing and replacing a starter with headers in a car, regardless of whether or not it’s a free replacement.

If I remember correctly the 63 Valiant starter is a mini starter. double check though.

I can't believe you people shell out that kind of major dough for a starter, you got more money than sense! I've had great luck with 2 $30 boneyard starters on my Mopes for over 25 years each, to each their own I guess!

Careful...... Headers make a difference. I would go stock starter, should work with many header types.
Been there , done that............ running 11 to 1 comp with stock starter, flips and starts on first crank. Good Luck.

I just use any 90's and up Dakota or Ram Starter. Smaller than any old 70's style starter and cranks over just fine.
