I have a question about the black hood treatment

Did all GTX cars get it?
Or was it an option code on the trim tag? What is the option code for it ?

Car that I have has all original paint on the hood (looks like hell too) - never been stripped etc..
can not find and thing on the hood, cowl area, behind trim etc. that show any evidence the blackout was put on.

car was also ordered with hood pins (on trim tag) but ZERO evidence that were ever installed
hood never cut, no evidence of the pins being nutted down.

So - I want to put the car back together the way to left the factory - even if its wrong.
but not sure what to do with the hood treatment -

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks - Bill

Hood performance paint V21 is an option. It was in done black only. Not many cars got that option really.

The J45 Hood pins themselves bolt to the body into the fender bolt place. So if somebody want them gone they could remove them, install bolts and swap hoods.

both of these would be on the fender tag if car had them so you’d didn’t have the hood paint.

Thank you for the information
appreciated.

since the hood pins are on the TAG, I think it best to out them on the car.

So I am guessing that the air grabber door is painted body color of the car - this is my 1st B-Body N96 car and not sure of the order and placement of painted parts ?
would that be the same for the trim piece on the car of the hood ?

Bill

The air grabber door would be body color if the hood treatment was not selected. If the hood treatment was selected, the door would be black to match.

where was the door put when the car was being painted ?
don't think it was installed but not sure.

so one last question

since there was not a V21 hood treatment on my car, would the rear tail light panel have been painted black organosol (bezels and metal panel) ?

I believed that the blackout on the tail panel was standard on the '70 GTX

Here is the Fender tag from my ex GTX....V21 and had blackout on the hood and tail panel...

The tail panel blackout was standard on every 1970 GTX. Kind of like the emblems, they all got them, no codes, nothing on the fender tag or broadcast sheet.

Tail panel blackout has nothing to do with the V21 or any other stripe or color option.

thanks for all the great info -

now I am confident of what I ned to do.

Will post up some pictures of the restoration mid summer.

thanks - bill

Please, a question regarding the painted tail panel.... I’ve seen 2 Roadrunners with this panel treatment, one a restoration and one an original paint that has been off the road for years. Both have the trim in place, and both swear it is original to the car. Any truth to this, and is there any verifiable information to corroborate this? Sorry to butt-inski!

Every '70 RR I have seen had painted body colour rear panel, and a stripe if called for.

A black stripe with a black rear panel would be too much IMHO.

Here's a '70 RR that I bought as a wreck in the late '80's......never painted from factory, but did have the body stripe added...

Painted tail panel with black stripe.

I added the rear black panel on my road runner because I liked the look, but it didn't come from the factory like that.

The unrestored car I saw was an orange car that was for sale recently. Not a bad price either for a southern car. That tail panel trim had been on it for a looong time. I was just wondering, but I do like the body color rear ends of the Roadrunner best.
