I have purchased new polyurethane bushings for my upper and lower control arms but I'm unsure how to change them. The uppers I'm not sure how to remove the shaft the goes through the bushings to press them out and it looks like there might be a weld on one of the bushings as well. The lowers are more common if it's the same as the earlier way to do it but I don't know how to take the rod that the Torsion bar inserts into out to push the bushing out.

Enter "suspension rebuild" in the search tool. There are comments and photos to assist with your rebuild project. Good luck.

Its a stinky job to be done outside but simply burn out the rubber out and the pivot shaft comes out either end. I've done this a few times. If your using the poly bushing you must leave the metal shells in the control arms anyway. Clean out the shells thoroughly and use the poly grease when installing, especially the lowers or you may experience squeaking.

I somewhat documented the 73 and up UCA job on here because it does not exist anywhere else, not even the factory service manual.

One of these days I need to reformat it and put it in the proper forum.

Let me see if I can find it again.....

OK, here it is.

I apologize as to the lack of specifics on the pipe sizes and the general incohesiveness of the description.

As stated in the text, I used to be a technical documentation writer in a previous life and frankly I'm ashamed of myself on this.

The meat and potatoes start at post #9.

One of these days I'l reformat it, and the missing info and post it in the suspension forum where it belongs.

Pic 4 in post 9 shows the notch cut in the bar.

This was the crucial step as I just can't see a way to support that control arm otherwise.

NEIKO TOOL PN 20718A PURCHASED FROM TOOLSANDMORE.US COST $92.41 for 3 day shipping

Plan to attempt to replace bushings on my 74 charger with this tool. I will pass along my results

I'd think the grooves cut in are meant to go around the bar so that kit might work did you buy that or do places rent that one out.

Please let us know if that works.

I couldn't see a way, but I didn't have it in hand.

I did have a new to me press and the bar stock pictured, although I did have to buy the pipe sections, which worked great.
