What do you think / see this pandemic doing to the price of our hobby cars? I can’t help but think that selling prices must be tanking but I’m not seeing it yet with online listing prices. Peoples savings value cut by 25%, historic unemployment not to mention all shows and classic car events cancelled. Too early to see impact yet? What are you seeing or thinking about where this is going?

My 2 cents, The average collector car / local car show ride will stay stable.
The guys with the investment grade stuff they bought 6 months ago better treat them as a stock investment and ride it out.
JMHO

Late summer car shows should be gangbusters IMHO.

They make more classics lately? I think the market goes where demand goes....my MN Gold car was off the radar for 40 years.... so some do return

I think the budget builder will be selling off soon. The elite market will hold out. But generally value will drop.

You cant eat a 440.
Unless you have way better teeth than I do!

Certainly can’t be a good time to be selling... I sold my car back in October at what I thought then was a decent price. I’m sure glad it sold when it did though....

Just my opinion based on a hunch...
Other then the investment grade cars that never get driven I think the bottom will drop out, and this has accelerated because of covid.
The investment cars aren’t even owned by enthusiasts necessarily, they are owned by investors.
As our generation passes on the value of driver cars will drop because current and future generations don’t care about these cars. Sure your grandkid does because you’re giving him a valuable car that he’ll flip as soon as you die, other kids won’t pony up the cash if they can get a Honda.

I think we will have a buyer's market in September October. That's a buyers market for any big ticket item; homes that are bank owned will start springing up at 15% below market, new cars will have incentives and no money down leases for cheap, and everything else will be impacted. Not sure about the $100,000 classic cars, but the 20 to 50 grand cars will have to be reduced to find buyers. That class of collector, both buyers and sellers, will be taking the brunt of tough economic times.

I feel we haven't felt the economic impact yet. The snowball effect is on it's way.The next few years may be tough.

There are a lot of dealers that will get hit hard. The ones that have been buying the decent 15-25k cars over the last couple years and marking them up to 30-45k or more.

Classic car values are also kept propped up by auction hype. If the Mecum and Barrett Jackson returns to TV with rare 1 of 4 built over restored cars going for $60,000 then it will be a buyers market for classic cars of all types.

Agree...we haven't seen much yet...like seeing the tip of an iceberg. I'm concerned that some huge organizations may file for bankruptcy or set those wheels in motion, some of which are in my IRA. How many ma & pa businesses are going to reopen and/or have their staff come back? We're riding on an air mattress with gov stimulus that can't be sustained long term. Then there's the matter of staying healthy and us older folks own most of the old cherry rides...

I wonder how the down market values for classic cars will effect guys like Mark Worman? Will he end up behind the counter of a tire shop in Springfield?

Thinking things will be worse... looking at Carlisle in July thinking by then who will be caught up on thier bills and able to spend cash on parts or even afford to take some time off from work. This maybe the first year I enjoy the show instead of being married to my spaces for a few days... I will decide what I am doing late June...

If the show goes on I will be spending cash and your booth is always one of my stops!

Took 11/12 years from 08 to recover.............how long will this one last?
I'll be 82 so all my Mopar stuff will be sold by then.
I have no ares to leave them to so sell to the highest offer will be the norm for me.
I just took a mental inventory this morning and I should have sold most of it over last winter like I planned but it never happened.

Some only come in to check my wife out, some buy parts and some do both so thanks for spending some cash!! Anyway if I decide not to sell you can always PM me a wish list as my spaces have been paid for and not giving them up...

I've had quite a few kids show interest in either one of my cars, seems like they appreciate the styling right away. With any luck these kinds of vehicles will continue to attract the human eye for years to come.
