who has Statefarm for car insurance?

We have State Farm on all our cars, classics included, but the classics are underinsured so I am planning to switch to Hagerty or similar.
Had them for the house too for about 25 yrs until they raised their rates astronomically for wind storm (hurricanes) insurance. Went with a FL-based company and saved almost 50%. Been wanting to move all of my business since, but they give good rates on the cars.

They had to raise the rates because they laid off the real Jake from State Farm, and hired his more PC Jake replacement!

Thanks to all I sucked it up and stayed with Hagerty. I just got upset that I wanted to up the value and they wanted more money. I only went up $3000. Insurance is a rip off.

Insurance is second only to prostitution as being the oldest trade there is.

If I want meat, I go to a butcher. If I want milk, I go to a dairy. If I insure my regular car, I go to a regular insurance company. If I insure my classic, I go to a classic car insurance company.

State Farm has had all my drivers and Homes since 1968. But they do not Insure any classics for me. They also charge liability on every car you have, so seven classic cars, seven liability policies.
I said I can only drive one at a time, what is the deal? They make money by overinsuring for duplicate coverage. I do not care for hagerty, but They Insure seven classic cars and two classic bikes for $821 dollars a year.all agreed value,,,,,,,,one liability policy covers as many cars as you want to Insure. I added a 71 demon at 10k value, for $60.00 a year.

Yeah but when you need it, and I hope you never do, you'll be glad you went with the right people...

That’s interesting. I agree with the premise. I have to assume there can only be one designated driver for all cars - you. No one else can drive. Then it makes sense. There’s a policy code for that. Which they price to. All carriers can do that it’s a matter of them wanting to and the insured knowing to ask for it. If there’s a claim with anyone else behind the wheel it would be denied. I would only be surprised if they didn’t apply the designated driver code to the policy. That would make Hagerty more the exception.

I am ok with the designated driver part. I tell them who is allowed to drive the cars, they add the name, and we are done.

Why don't you like hagerty?
I will try to keep this short, as long answers bore people.
About five years ago I was just finishing my 69 GTS 340. I drove into town to the local gas station, when a loud clatter began in at the time coming from rear of the engine.
I had hagerty at the time, with the extra towing coverage. It was June, 70 degrees, 1:00 or so. The operator answered, assuring me that a flatbed tow truk would come.
Every 30 minutes I called, no truck. Finally it is 4:30, I pretty much blew a cork, so I called my son-in law away from work to babysit the car while I took his car home. I hooked up my own truck and trailer and headed back.

When I got there a regular tow truck was backing up to my car, so I stopped him and asked where was the flatbed?
The driver said this is all you get with hagerty, and nobody else would pick up the order because Hagerty calls around for the cheapest tow truck possible.and he was the cheapest. I told him to leave, that I was moving it myself.

Then when I get home I called Hagerty back to complain, and they said they have no record of me calling in, and that Person I allegedly spoke to was gone for the day.????Really
strike 2) The following March I had cooled down, but was unsure that I wanted to renew.
Time went by, and in may being in a hurry I decided to renew. They were happy to they, said, but it had to prorate back to March. I asked if my car was covered those two months, and they said no. So I asked them why the Hell do I have to pay for two months when I was not covered? Then they had the balls to demand $20.00 for a late fee.
I very promptly told them to FXXX off. I then spoke to someone here at FBBO from Houston that suggested another company That was excellent to deal with, took quarterly payments, and allowed the mileage limits on the cars to move around as needed.
In other words, 9 cars gets 9,000 miles. And If I needed more they would adjust the cost slightly.
Unfortunately that company ceased operations in Nebraska, so all the accounts wound up back at Hagerty. They did honor the price structure of the previous company, but I know they will jack it up next year. At that time my agent will have secured me with someone else.

Sorry for the long story, hagerty does suck. but for right now they will have to do.

The good news is I had not tightened one torque convertor bolt quite enough, so it was hitting the Inspection cover. all was good after taking care of that.

I have State Farm on my house and daily drivers. For my classics I have Grundy. I switched to Grundy a couple of years ago after reading and hearing about all of the horror stories that if you have to make a claim State Farms agreed value is not agreed. They only pay what they fell it may be worth, not it's true value. It was also a hassle to continue to pay for several re-appraisals all the time to keep the value current.

There’s Agreed Value and Stated Amount. This language often get confused on carrier policies. If you have Stated Amount they have to pay you that sum if the car is destroyed or stolen. Agreed Value the carriers will often pay what they think its worth no matter the insured amount on the declarations page. Always make sure you clarify which one your insuring for - don’t try to save money as you’ll get burned on a claim. Make the carrier define that term for you.

I wouldn't go with State Farm unless you feel like paying out of pocket. I had a claim on my Roadrunner last year and paid a bunch of money out of pocket because they would only pay up to $50/hour on labor to fix the damages. The shop I had do the fix is a custom, only works on classics type shop and one I trust and their labor rate was $80/hour. I cancelled and b.c am now with American Collectors.

Actually you have these backwards. An agreed value policy is just what it says, an agreed amount of coverage that will be provided. Your premium is based on the price you agree they are going to pay out (up to that value). If you under estimate and it will cost you more to fix it after a loss, you pay that difference. If it is stolen and you can replace it for less, you get some extra cash out of it. A stated value policy is only that. You stated a value you think your car is worth but it does not mean that is the value you will get. This is another beef I had with State Farm and why I left them for Hagerty in the first place. I had a stated value policy with them for $10k for 5 or 6 years at a rate higher than if I just insured it with a regular passenger car policy. Someone broke into my car and the total cost for the repair was going to be around $2800 which exceed 50% of the value of the car so they would not cover it and considered it totaled. Market prices at the time were only around $5k so it didn't matter that the stated value was $10k. I needed to have an agreed value policy (which they didn't offer at the time). When they finally started offering agreed value policies, that's when I switched back to them. The result of that switch is in my prior post.

Just want to add my experience, maybe or maybe not it’s about the agency? I have no idea,
I have had State Farm for 32 years, house, 3 daily drivers, and my GTX.
I have the X insured for 50k, they got pics, and appraised value, showing on my policy, and I signed document on mileage limit, parades, cruises etc.
They said heres your quote , less than 500 per year, and the policy states/shows the value.
Yesterday they called and said they can no longer reduce the rate like in the past when it’s I storage from October to April, it has to remain same annual premium, I said no problem,
I then requested a quote yesterday from Hagerty and Grundy out of curiosity from that call, and reading this posting.
Both quoted 1/3 more for annual premium for the 50k value I have with SF
I’ll stay with my present policy.
Again, just my present experience

Stating what some of you folks are paying without stating what you are actually insured for is of no value to anyone, I go through this nonsense with airplane owners every year!
Hagerty, zero restrictions on where or when I drive the cars for 5000 miles a year... not that they'll ever see that. TWO listed drivers and anyone over 26 can do so as well.
$848 Canuck dollars ($593US) on my Bee, Agreed replacement value $125,000 Cdn ($88KUS)
$1161 Canuck dollars on the Bird ($812US), Agreed replacment value $175,000 Cdn ($122KUS)
