Anyone installed a complete drum to drum 8.75 from Moser Engineering in a 64 as of late? If so how did it go?

I bought one of their fabbed housings (sorry now) for my 65 Belvedere. It is beautiful and beefy-13#s more than OEM but, in retrospect I should have popped for a S-60. I opted for the back brace and that too was a mistake/waste of money. I mentioned to the sales guy I had moved the springs inboard and didn't question the dimensions of the brace. Well you know it was too long, so I shortened it, stuck it in the car, and of course the shocks hit the brace! shortened more and now it fits, Pain in the ***.

After all the problems a friend of mine had with a Strange Dana rear end, I wouldn’t buy one from them. It was not assembled correctly, according to their specs. The spacing from the ends of the axle housings and the axles was not correct per their tech line. Drum brakes would not work on it as the drums would rub the backing plates and lock the wheels from turning - then tried another of their brake kits, this time a Wilwood kit, calipers would drag on rotors as there wasn’t enough clearance. Got far more help from Wilwood than Strange and finally figured out that despite their denials of a problem with the rear end, it wasn’t right. Once finally cornered with the info and help from Wilwood, they admitted that the configuration of the axle ends, brackets and axle shafts had the wrong dimensions. Took almost 6 months of work, various phone calls, parts orders and returns before it got straightened out. Barely got a ‘We’re sorry’ out of Strange. Won’t be using anything from them on my car...

Sounds like it's best to build your own. If it were me I would call Cass AKA Dr. Diff for all the parts and use a factory housing.

Sounds like a lot of hassel..So no one here has purchased a complete ready to bolt in from Moser???

Yep, I did. I bought the Fabbed 8.75" complete with their axles and rear disc brake set-up. My car has mini tubs and the springs moved in 3". They built it to my specs and everything fit perfectly. Very happy with my purchase.

Thanks Dave! I've always loved your build! Ever evolving!

For what its worth I've done my own. The factory axle to housing offset varies. Not all Willwood rotor hats mimic the factory offset. My current set wouldn't fit. It needed an 1/8"spacer between the axle flange and the rotor to make the caliper fit.

I purchased 1 of Moser D60 didn't have the spring perches cause was having the car mini tubbed at the time, my fab guy was impressed. I did reuse the drum brakes off of the 8 3/4 that came out of my car

I bought a complete s60 from strange for my 64'. I mini tubbed it , bought the tire and wheel combo i wanted and stuffed them onto the tubs. I measured from back of wheel to back of wheel and gave those numbers to strange. I went with rear disc brakes and since i didn't have those to measure brake stand off i let them do the math, they were dead on. I went this route because the 83/4 was maybe bent a little and didn't want to play around with it. Also went with the Trutac ( street car) which I have in another car and love.
