This is how "Restorations by Julius" handles bodywork. Backstory: cracking paint, a few polite calls & discussions with Julius, who remembered the car.
He provided no answers or even consistent stories, only "never had a problem".
The bodywork & paint was not tampered with since leaving his shop.
Finally started digging into it, and this is what we found (quick & sucky photos):
Lt quarter lower patch panel barely welded, and beat on apparently with a ball-peen, then over 3/8" of bondo on top.
A few rust spots on the right, a good 1/4" or so of bondo over that.
Other areas with no damage underneath, also 1/4" of bondo.
I'm utterly mystified as to why, let alone the sheer nerve involved in such crap work.
Bonus points: missing parts, incorrect fasteners & finishes, etc found during disassembly.
Rest assured the car is going down to the bone and being re-done.

I've always wondered what kind of work he did, as I was interested in a car for sale, previously done by his shop. Glad I never pursued it...

when was the car restored

it's all about the money. they obviously don't give 2 shits about doing it right the first time

I've heard from a couple other guys previously to tearing into this car, who also had problems. There's absolutely no valid reason for work this poor. It was restored some years back, but no matter; my shops have had a lifetime guarantee on our work, and cars we did 30+ years ago still look the same as when they left the shop. But we never hacked them, either...

The review speculated he might be farming things out nowadays. Even so your reputation should be guarded like your guard your gold.

So you own another body/restoration shop? When I first read it I thought you were the car owner.. :popcorn2:

I worked in a lot of body shops. Hardly any I would want to work on my own car. There are shops that do very good
work, but are probably to expensive for the average person to afford.

Wait a minute, didnt Julius die a couple years ago? Or am I thinking of somebody else?

Your thinking of the wiper guy??
Kind of sad to see that. I've seen several of his cars over the years at the Flings. Always looked like really nice cars from the outside.

There ya go! WTH was his name?
Jules was the "wiper motor guy". Julius Steuer ran off to Texas, apparently left someone at the CA shop to handle the fallout.
Yes, I'm not on FBBO much, usually on Moparts, where I have something like 14,000 posts...

...lol, just busting your chops a bit....its all good.

I think this is the dude. He has tons of great looking stuff. I'm getting the feeling that his volume exceeded his ability to control quality, a common issue in many shops. He seems very skilled.....

Yep thats him. His cars are top notch concourse type stuff. At least they looked to be. I never dug into any of his paint though.
