Hello all, I posted this on another forum as well. If I can find another 68 Road Runner I am going to sell mine back to the original owner whom I bought it off of 46 years ago. I told him I would sell it to him if I can find another. Has to be a 1968 that is a 4 speed and came that way. While mine is an RM23 and is all original and numbers matching that is not necessary. Would like one that has been restored even if it was years ago. Just something nice, not a trailer queen. I am in the Philadelphia area but would be willing to travel if it's not too far. I have been checking ebay, youtube, facebook marketplace and Hemmings. Found a couple on Craigslist but turned out to be scams. If you know of one for sale or where else to look please let me know. Thank you, Robert

Wow, 46 years and you were willing to sell it back to the original owner!!! Guys like you are what the hobby is all about...
Im sure many will help you find a great replacement car

No 69 4 speed cars? Same car but better potential options are available like airgrabber and I sure like the hood paint treatment better on a 69 too?
Just asking

Thanks Steve,
I bought it from him in 1973 when I was 18 years old and dating my now wife of 45 years. It was all original with 30,000 miles on it. Only things I changed were the Inland shifter and the hubcaps, which are in the trunk. Just had to have a Hurst shifter and Cragar S/S. Parked it in the garage in 1979 when it would not pass Pennsylvania inspection. Drove it for the first time when we built a new house in 1994 and it was like I was 18 again. I told my wife maybe I should wait until I'm 65 to restore it because I would probably get into trouble. Well, I'm now 65 and was looking into restoring it when one day the original owner showed up at my front door, thanks to the internet. Strangely, neither of us had moved away from the area. He asked if I would consider selling and I said no. After awhile I thought what it would mean to him because he has two sons. I talked it over with my wife and we came up with this idea. Yes, I have more history with it but this is the thing legends are made of. How many people can say they have the car they bought new 52 years ago, or have the car their Dad bought new?

Hi, 4mules, after having a 68 for so long it's just what I want, first year for the Road Runner and all. I'm not too interested in options, mine does not have power steering or brakes. Only has an AM radio, a pin stripe, hood mounted turn signal indicators and chrome rocker mouldings. I am not that familiar with 69's to know what is and isn't correct for them.

Good luck with your quest...

sounds like a noble thing to do too, not sure I could do it...

had this one since 2005,
not sure I'd sell it back even if the guy was still alive

I built it my way & it still has most the org. matching #'s stuff
just day 2 mods, way better power & handling, using org. cores etc.

I love the 68's myself,
I've had 13 68-70 RR's & 8 of them were 68's

Hello again, it's coming up on two months since I posted and the original owner is wanting his car back. One member was gracious enough to offer me his beautiful 69 Road Runner. It appears I am the only one that is willing to part with a 68 Road Runner. Since no one close has one to sell I am now willing to purchase anywhere in the US for the right 1968 Road Runner. Thanks again, Robert

Not sure how I missed this when you posted back in March. I was able to purchase my parents 67 R/T from the guy my Dad sold it to in 72. This was just in August of 2019. I’ll share a couple thoughts with you. First, it’s great your considering this. That car is way more part of your family than it is his by now. I’m not sure what shape your car is in but you know what shape your car is in. Buying another car may turn into a bag of worms. Also, sounds like your buyer is leaning on you, make him go find you a car.

This is indeed a noble journey. If the guy I bought my GTX from 48 years ago showed up I could only sell if I was ready to sell. I consider it my car not his. The guy only owned it for 3 years. Your generous offer is amazing. I wish you all the luck in finding a 68 bird! Didn’t realize they were that rare for sale...

Great story but you should start a wanted, sale, or trade thread in the Classified forums. It's in the rules.

I think your story of owning it all those years is much more compelling than his story of buying it new and selling it three years later. How many cars did he buy over the years if he sold that one in three years. All he wants is a story to brag on. You've made a real story with the car that would make any family proud. Not only that, it's the car you dated your wife in? KEEP IT

This thread spurs good memories. And got me thinking. Wish I knew where my Bronze 383/column 68 RR Wound up.
