Drive in theaters

Yep a novel idea posted...shopping mall parking lots. No need for the old speakers with wireless tech. Move all the portable speed bumps in line to prop our front tires on to view the screen. Another? Set up drag strips on the vast empty parking lots. Or wait? Let's build some more subdivisions...

There was a cool ol' drive in, in Concord, Pleasant Hill Ca. area
Originally called Contra Costa Motor In opened in 1947
500 cars capacity, 1 huge screen IIRC
right off the hwy-680 freeway Contra Costa Blvd,
later called Monument Blvd
it changed hands a few times finally closed in 1978
known as Pleasant Hill Drive in, in my day
we'd all pile in someone's big car or the parents station wagon
IIRC on Tues or Thur $5.00 a car, for a double or triple feature

there was another in Antioch Bridgehead Drive In Theater 2 screens
right off hwy 4 going to hwy 160 River road by the Antioch Bridge
until like 1994-ish IIRC, a Target shopping center or was last I saw...

there was another one in Concord Ca.
West Wind Solano Drive In Theater, big *** screens IIRC & digital
still open, I think, site still active https://www.westwinddi.com/digital-experience
right where hwy-4 & hwy-680 interchange was, Solano dr. exit
they own like 6 of them 3 in Northern Calif. Concord, Sacramento, San Jose,
1 in Arizona, Glendale & 2 in Nevada, Reno & LV

they were all over the place in my area as a youth
some had Huge screens

Of course we remember the good old days and drive ins. The beer, the girls. They used to charge $2 a head for occupants of the car so we’d put 2 guys or girls in the trunk to beat the man so to speak. Hey we’d save $4 that way....

I live about an hour from an operating drive in. When I was a teenager we had three drive ins close by. I worked at one when I was 16 back in 1974. What a great job!

Seems to me that everyone including me has the people in the trunk story lol .
We used to back in the exit sometimes - can't believe that worked .

  1. We have three within driving distance of Kansas City. One with multiple screens.

You have been warned.....you may get lost in time...

Unfortunately none in my area of CA. Would love to take one in. LAND is just too expensive here.

A single guy living with his parents NEEDED drive in movies to score. I fogged up the windows a few times in the 80s....

Starting tonight and running every weekend through June they are doing exactly that here. Bands and movies.

The one in Massachusetts just opened last Friday. Rustic Drive-in.
