The scenery was almost surreal.

You know I sometimes test cars for big automakers but I can't say who. I was driving south out of Leadville, Colorado late last night and looked to my left and right. On both sides, there were huge mountain ranges. The moon was so full it was kind of twilight. The snow-capped peaks were very visible.

I'm enjoying all this when a herd of deer walked in front of me. Good thing that car had ABS because I was on the stop pedal hard. I had 6 encounters with deer last night and one wolverine. Must have been the full moon.

I guess this is one side of them in the daylight. You guys should plan driving trips out here this summer.

The US has so much to see and yet most people fly over it and never see it! I don’t know about everyone here but after my first flight in the 60’s on PanAm I thought wow this is amazing. As a kid and now an engineer I an awed at the technology. BUT over the years I enjoyed flying less and less. Perhaps the greed of the carriers who made the seats so freaken tight or the craby flight attendants or the rude passengers. I now prefer to drive across this beautiful country and take the time because thats what we are here for anyways.........

I love the Colorado mountains, the Montana mountains are a close 2nd. most of the wallpaper on my desktop has been pics from Colorado. I've been vacationing there in the summer for decades.

However, it seems like it's getting too crowded nowadays in the summer. I-25 is a nightmare, I think 90% on the population of Colorado lives within 20 miles of I-25. A couple of years ago on a Saturday in late June, I was driving from Denver to Buena Vista along 285, and it was pretty much bumper to bumper with the average speed fluctuating from the speed limit to 30 below. And that was mostly for the whole 120 miles!

Here's a couple of pics from the Crested Butte area....

I flew to Miami from the UK in 1996, bought a really cheap car and then drove to San Diego, then to Vegas, up to Sacramento, San Francisco and then LA, with many, many stops on the way. I have to say the variety of landscapes is second to none, a really beautiful country.

SEE THE USA IN A $#@^&*!+^.. OR A BAD *** MOPAR ! Wife and I have many of times all over the country.

I have always said that you can drive anywhere in this country and see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. It's a big country, we should enjoy it!!

Rt 6 up north, Rt 30, Rt 40 and Rt 60 are neat to drive. Many go almost from coast to coast.
We did Rt 60 from the east in the winter in a 67 Dodge Dart with no heater. I told the wife we will just keep heading southwest for warmer weather.
Boy was I wrong. Didn't hit warm weather till west Texas. She rode in a sleepin' bag most of the way.Still had fun though !

If they don't start international flights it may even be enjoyable with out the crowds.

Nice scenery. I love traveling down through there. So much to see. Roads to almost every area. Up here. It takes quite abit to see what we have to offer. Its so far off the beaten paths

Why travel for pleasure if not on the unbeaten path.

I drive this highway quite a bit. From the Continental Divide down through the Arkansas River valley. It's wicked at night. We get lots of deer, one bear, and a few mountain goats. Sometimes you come around a corner and there's a big rock in the middle of the road. I tell people it makes Ansel Adams wish he had a GoPro. If you mess up you have to choose between the rock wall and the white-water-rapids.

We go way too fast.

this is truly Gods country, the mother-load
