So It Begins, 1966 Charger Restification.

Update-

May 1st, 2020. Got the left head and header on, right side head gasket, and also got a present today. Turns out we had to make modifications to the header as it was hitting the steering box,:BangHead: . Luckily we modified it and it clears now, thank God :). The present I am talking about is an AFCO Performance aluminum radiator.

Update-

May 2nd, 2020. Got the right side head and header on today. The header gave us some clearance issues as well, :BangHead:. However that is also fixed thank God. What was wrong with that was it was hitting the I believe transmission or the pan. Now that the heads are on they are all torqued to 70.

Seal and transmission pictures. We took the stock torque converter out today April 24th 2020 to check the seals, and were going to replace the converter with a more snappy one to get off the line quicker. That plan unfortunately did not work out, so the stock converter is going back in. We did however learn that the transmission is a 1970 B & E body transmission, and has a 19 spline converter. Look at the last picture of the pan rail numbers.....View attachment 941107 View attachment 941108 View attachment 941114 View attachment 941115 View attachment 941116View attachment 941118View attachment 941119

If the trans has a 19 spline input shaft then it is a '66 or earlier trans, not a 1970.

Update-

Sunday May 3rd, 2020. The old transmission pan is off, and the transmission oil is getting drained. The oil looks great with no metal shavings or anything, all clear. The transmission was also rebuilt before we got the car too. The old pan will not be used, it will be saved in-case we need it for another project or we ever decide to sell the car. Going to be using a deeper aluminum pan with fins to cool the transmission down faster instead. Sorry I forgot to add the last picture, my apologies.

Love your progress. You make me feel like a slacker by comparison.

Thank you sir, I really appreciate your kind words. Thank you also for now following the build as well, it means a lot. Been working on the car little by little, day by day. :)

I have one that I bought but it is not home yet , currently held up by the border closure. I'm itching to work on it myself.

Thanks Hank, I really appreciate that. How is your brake conversion coming?
I ended up doing the fronts only. They don't make kits for rear 14x7, only 15x7 unless you want to use spacers. I'm not gonna use spacers, don't trust them. So we cleaned them up and put new pads on them and redid the emergency brake line

Great job! nope no pics yet, it keeps getting side tracted by his other cars.. So is life. BUT should get back to the EFi install by the weekend.

Thank you I appreciate the kind words, I see you have a thread on your friends car now. I am now following and am looking forward to seeing more progress.

Hi everyone,

Not much updates on the Charger lately. Got a friends car project here and other projects here as well going on right now. Just got the vacuuming shown here, and the painting of the grille and headlight bezels for now. The vacuuming I personally did, it was done May 4th 2020 and took me about an hour and a half all said and done with doing both front and back sides of the car. Remember all that gross dried up seat foam that used to be in the 1st 3 pictures? All gone now, and amazingly we also found a piece of a check cleaning it out too. Yes I am serious and not kidding when I say a check. Notice the factory seat belts date coded 1965 also. Pictures of the right side of the car vacuumed out will hopefully come tomorrow, stayed tuned......

Hi everyone,

Here are the pictures of the car vacuumed out I did not get to post yesterday, of the right passenger side. It was done May 4th 2020 like the left drivers side. Notice the factory back seat belt date coded 1965, however I could not get a picture of the front seat belt with the seat there and I believe it was stuck as well. Here are pictures of the passenger side before it was vacuumed out.....

The passenger side all vacuumed out. Notice the old Christmas card box as well though, it was found under the seat along with that little piece of folded paper in the springs which I will also post here as well. Here are some pictures, what a difference......
