The scenery was almost surreal.

One of the things I miss from living in Washington State is seeing this.

I found out one of the biggest mountains I was seeing was Mt. Elbert, the tallest in Colorado, 14,433 feet. You can see the picture but it doesn't do it justice when your entire windshield is looking straight at it. You feel really small. I think there is a hiking trail to the top. There's a group of fitness people here called the Fourteeners. They try to climb all of them.

There are 53 mountains over 14,000 feet here.

I would like to be there this summer. Where is that located? I would like to drive that straight line. That is so cool.
We stayed at Goulding, just south of there. That pic would be about the 13 mile marker, looking south. Scene where Forrest Gump decided to stop running in movie . John Wayne made several movies in that area. If you go there, you have to check out Gooseneck SP, also area of movie scene (thinking it was Fort Apache) just a ways north of there.

just west of our City. This is back in 2013 when we had the raging water from the mountains that flooded out our parts of the city.
note the bridge is gone.

I rode trip for a living, I don't fly anywhere. To me the country is relatively small I don't always get to go to the best places but one of my favorites was the 101 down to Brookings OR.

Down by the State Pen? :D

This is a beautiful country. My wife and I have been on many road trips across the country. We did 6,500 miles in less than 2 weeks on one of them. Drove from our house in Rhode Island all the way to Roswell NM, up to the Grand Canyon, then back home. My buddy hired us to drive his daughters car from here to Seattle WA and he paid for our plane tickets back. Another one we flew into AZ to see an old buddy of mine and then proceeded to drive up the Pacific Coast Highway up through the Redwood forest and then back to San Francisco for the plane trip home. Last year we drove to Niagara Falls then to Green Bay WI to watch the Packers and Broncos play then on to Gettysburg PA and then home. Yeah we are road trip people.

Put the boat in the lake up in NH yesterday & took a nice slow1 1/2 hour ride around the lake with Submit......

If it is. As soon as the borders open up. Im heading that direction.
It’s also worth it to drive the nearby remote Valley of the Gods road where they filmed Airwolf. That entire southern Utah northern Arizona area is gorgeous (Arches, Bryce, Zion park, monument valley, canyonlands, etc). As monument valley is on tribal land, there are no stores or gift shops or food or toilets. Just a makeshift stand selling Native American flat bread. I like that. Unspoiled for all to enjoy. Not touristy and ugly like the area by Niagara Falls.

I have always said that you can drive anywhere in this country and see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. It's a big country, we should enjoy it!!
I agree, what a great and beautiful country we have. I have traveled all over the world for work and there is plenty of nice scenery in other countries, but the USA is by far the best place. Can never understand why people want to go to another country for vacation when there are so many great places to visit right here, but then I'm probably burned out on international travel for work.

I chuckle every time the bicycle tour people ride by the farm. They stop for snacks and a rest stop by our barn under the big weeping elm tree. When I ask where they are from I get answers from around the world. They came to VERMONT for vacation to see the scenery. They always tell us our property is fabulous and so picturesque. We just say, " Yeah, we know. Thanks!" We are both ex military and have both lived all over the planet. We are happy here. They always mention the lack of hustle and bustle, no billboards or urban sprawl, low population numbers and high percentage of dirt roads. Great state to ride a bicycle in.

The news is saying they are hit harder with COVID 19 than NYC & NJ, might be awhile
