From Van's Auto. Mine was shot. I'll probably never hook it up but since I'm restoring the dash in the 66, I figured I should just go ahead and buy it ($40) to do a complete job on it. I'll solder the leads on and leave it under coiled under the dash. Here's pics.

I need to replace mine. Once the couple year search for a working radio was finally successful,
imagine my chagrin the first time the radio was fired up - only to discover the speaker was
"blown".
It's annoying, removing the radio and all that to get at the speaker. Only reason I haven't done
it yet. :)
 
Some of the new speakers with the large magnet have very little room to fit in the under the dash. I found out the hard way. Some will hit the heater controls.

I don't know about you but I don't get up and out from under the dash to well any more. LOL

I'll post some pice when I do the install. Easy since the dash is out and on a table.

This is where I got my speaker. The guy was very knowledgable about what the 66 Coronet needed.

It is in and it Works. WOW, had not heard an AM radio in many years. Electronics have made a lot of progress since 66.

Not the best shot of the speaker in place, but it fits well. If I remember it correctly, there is little room for modern speakers, they are too deep. As well, if I remember correctly, there is an OHM issue with current speakers vs this one. Good Luck to you, Best B,
 
OH, one more thing, install the Speaker AND the speaker grill BEFORE the dash pad goes on. Don't ask me how I know that. :) As you can see, the speaker grill goes Under the Dash Pad, just a bit.

Easy for you to say! :poke::poke::lol: It's probably easier pulling the dash than crawling underneath. I've never pulled one.
 
Snook, I had reason to be under and around my dash today. I put in the the steering wheel and tidied up some cables that were bouncing around getting in the way of the Wipers. So here is a couple of pics. I had a look at it and it appears that the smaller magnet may be necessary to allow for the Glove Box Liner. At least that is how I eye balled it. If you are using an original radio, I do remember about an issue with the OHMs. I am not Elec minded at all, so most of that goes over my head. But, here are the pics from today. They are about the same, but you can see the Arms for the Glove Box door fits pretty close to that magnet. Let me know how yours works. Best, B.

I have a 66 Charger, and the radio works but the speaker is shot. I thought the speaker was directly above the radio, but looking at your pictures I see it is offset. It almost looks like you could remove the glovebox liner and replace the speaker from underneath without removing the radio or the dash, or is that wishful thinking? My car also has A/C so there are the center outlets under the radio as well.
 
Cant tell you about an A/C car. Here is a shot as though I was sitting in the car looking straight forward. I can get to 3 of the nuts for the speaker, but that number 4 that is located on top of the radio in front will take some Hooooodeenie type of moves, I think. My old hands find it tuff to make that corner, but I would give it a try before I pulled that dash. Certainly the other three are pretty much right there. Let me know how it works for you. Best, B.

I think the speaker magnet will clear and I'll verify that when I restore the dash. I'm not going to use an antenna, that hole was welded up forever. I'm going to gut the AM radio and install a Bluetooth setup with jacks for an IPOD. It will look stock but I'll be able to play my tunes. If this was a real hemi car or numbers matching BB car, I'd go the pure resto route but since it's not, I can do pretty much what I want and don't feel like I'm hacking up a heritage piece - I'm done with that stuff. I gave the non-AC heater box to a friend who needed one and I'll be using the much more compact Classic Air Perfect Fit system on this car. Hell I may even install a cruise control on this one as I intend to drive the wheels off it.

I say, WONDERFUL on the Driver. Anything I restore, we drive, PERIOD! SP is a numbers matching BB (361), 4 Spd, Convert, BUT, it will not likely leave our family. It has been with the family since 1967. So today, I painted the Steering Shaft near the Steering Box Semi Gloss Black Engine Paint. I think it probably ought to be "Raw Steel", but when I cleaned up the shaft it had enough pits that it really did not look "new" and it is what I had and I wanted to get the Steering Column in. If this EVER leaves our family, the next person can take that paint off, if that is really their deal. I also put Black on the bottom of the car. My Wife, who had this car as her High School Car, wants to local show the car. Black is easier to keep in repair of chips and such than is the Body color. So, as we enjoy driving this car, well, we will enjoy driving this car. :). Best, B.

This car will also be doing NSS races when I have the opportunity but It will be a mild build. Shooting for 12.00 index (should run sub 11.49 but I'll save that for the end of night TnT run. No roll cage, no certs, no physicals, no drama - been there done that and don't want to do it any longer. Royal PITA.

Snook, just looking at the Speaker issue, with a big magnet, it WILL BE CLOSE with the Glove Box liner and the glove box hardware, I think? Best to you, B.
