Hi Guys.

Just wanting to get your feedback regarding your buying/selling experience on For B Bodies. I'm currently looking for headlight bezels for my 68 charger and received two emails from members who signed up like yesterday. They both referred me to other email accounts, and the one seller refuses to use paypal and recommends a bunch of other payment methods. My "bs'ometer" went off and needless to say I'm very reluctant to send a blank check to someone I don't know or without any references from respected members on the forum.

Anyone have similar experiences?

I’d say trust the bs meter. I like to talk to people on the phone before spending too much money. Even with that you can get stung.

I would avoid selling to or buying from anyone that has no reputation on the site. Some of our members do prefer personal checks because they either dont trust PayPal having access to their bank accounts info or they have been burned by someone that initiated a refund after a deal was complete. If I am selling I always give out my phone # after initial communication and when I am buying I expect the same in case I need to reach the seller. When I wasn't a GM I would also give email address because the inbox for non GM,s is really small and unless you constantly delete stuff you can miss messages.

I know it sounds drastic, but I dont do private transactions online unless someone is a shop or a vendor of some sort, despite the circumstances and no matter how great the deal is.

A few years ago, I bought an OEM WS6 hood for my Trans Am for about $1200 on LS1TECH.com. Long story short, the seller never gave me the hood and I never figured out how to address the situation so I just lost that money. I posted about it publicly on the message boards, but since the member was more established than I was the thread received few responses and even the moderators just said "well he always did right by me." So nope, unless I'm dealing with a legitimate business I dont spend money, which sucks because there are good deals to be had...

That has been described here by the moderators as textbook scam, and has been tried here before. RUN AWAY! but report the "member" to the moderators!

Exactly!

I know people have to be new at some point but both transactions sound like a scam to me. From what I have read (not experienced because I use paypal), do not use Venmo for any transactions because there is not any recourse should someone take you to the cleaners. Even PayPal isn't perfect but they at least offer some type of protection against scams.

You can also google their names and email addresses online and see if they pop up in other forums as scammers.

Go with your instinct....if it sounds too good to be true...it probably is.

I also agree that everyone here was new once, but when you are looking for a HTF part, and you get two responses immediately proceed with the utmost caution. We have plenty of "Join to sell" members here, most are good people, but you still have to be careful.

Most members that are parts sellers also have many posts about repair and or general Mopar related tech or even just cars.

I said "most".
