I have a numbers matching, 1971 GTX that needs restoring.
I have the original broadcast sheet but for some reason the fender tag is now missing. Will this cause the price to drop significantly?

I would say the appeal would drop for some people. What do you mean by "for some reason?"

Uh, belated welcome to the fourm, by the way.

you have the build sheet......... better than a fender tag, and you can get an accurate tag made based on that

What happened to your tag? Welcome to FBBO from SoCal BTW

Dave Wise can make you a reproduction fender tag, but you had better have every piece of providence to prove it's yours. Broadcast sheet, VIN tag, body stamps, title, etc...

I'm always curious...will you guys recommending tag makers guarantee their accuracy or are you guiding people to someone that doesn't know what they are doing? Will the person seeking a tag get ripped off?

We don't know what plant the GTX is from. All three plants have their nuances. Will that tag maker he goes to know that? In the long run, he's better off having a BS and no tag than a badly remade tag.

Pretty sure he did my Bird's correctly, from my 1.5 broadcast sheets. If there's any font issues, I can't see it (other than the tops of the 6's may be a touch short) but don't care as I've publicly told everyone here and elsewhere is a repro to replace one that grew legs in the 80's. No attempt to ding it, bend it, put inspection stamps on it, etc. It is what it is a reproduction, clear coated and screwed in place to fill that blank space on the inner fender. Of course the sequencing number on Lynch is an educated guess, as without the original fender tag there's no way to prove for sure it's correct or wrong.

You want BS, you can get it. The person mentioned is reputable and can reproduce the fender tag correctly from the build sheet which also indicates the plant as does the VIN #.

6th digit in the vin is the assembly plant, no?

7th.. but what he's saying is all the plants had a different way of stamping and what went on the fender tags.

my bad....i thought i was quoting the OP. and he didn't know where his car was built

and yes, 7th......I cant count

yes and there are a lot of bad tags out there because of that. People get ripped off by bad tag makers.

It’s not as simple as just having a BS.

Wouldn't or couldn't do mine! Not knowledgable enough about Lynch Rd tags..
