got a package deal on some parts last week.

in the mix was this McLeod RST clutch, i have secretly have been wanting one for a while, but the price was a little steep, until this deal came up.

it has 2 organic discs, but they are un sprung...which saddens me, i may not enjoy the manners of this piece, but i thought id see if anybody is running one to see if my thoughts about this piece are on point.

if your running one, please offer your experiences

Just get different discs. Or call McLeod and talk to the tech line to see what they recommend. Typically you'll want sprung hubs in a street car but perhaps with that clutch they get by without them. Or perhaps that clutch you bought was set up for a race car and it needs to be tweaked for your application.

Do they even offer a twin disc with a sprung hub? I wonder if theres room for the springs?

They might not. Mine came with solid hubs but it was an older version. It is worth a call to the tech line to confirm. Easier to check before it is installed in the rig.

I think all the twin disc set ups McLeod sells are unsprung. Could be mistaken. I've never heard anyone complain about street manners with one and actually they praise them. I have a twin disc in a 2017 Shelby 350 that is smooth as silk but I don't know if it has springs or not. They don't use McLeod. Possibly the slippage of two discs minimizes the harshness of engagement making a sprung hub un-necessary.

I recently put a RST 6911-05 in my Super Bee and really like it so far. First twin disc I have ever used. The pedal effort is 100 times better than a CenterForce dual friction 11" for a 18 spline.

Sweet clutch. Loved mine @ 554 RWHP. Smooth with easy pedal pressure.

@andyf Its a bit hard for me to see without my glasses so forgive the question.....

Is that a 10 Inch 1 X 23 splined set up?
I’m looking for my 340 based stroker small block.

I’ve got it on my LS7 in my Z06 vette, unsprung and has great street manners. It has 600whp and drives in traffic fine.

That's a funny coincidence..
I was just looking at these yesterday.
If the 2,900 pound diaphragm style McLeod I have isn't up to par once I start pounding on it with my HitMaster, and I don't get as much relief for my knee with the Hydramax hydraulic throwout bearing as I expect to, I think the 6913-05 is an ideal solution. Much easier pedal effort, and much more surface area to spread the friction over.
I've heard some phoo-phoo the idea that should my organic disc fail to perform or hold up from excessive heat from the brief but intense slippage induced at the launch only by the HitMaster launch control system that going with a more aggressive disc material would be necessary, but that causes additional flywheel wear. Basically the choice is wearing on the disc material or wearing the surface of the flywheel. It would seem like it would be better to have the disc wear than the flywheel. Once again, it seems logical that having multiple friction surfaces would "spread the wear" and also generally make the whole setup better poised to handle the brief extremes imparted by the HitMaster.
