Hi B Body friends- I've changed the timing chain on my 1974 Charger SE 400. It had to sit for a little bit while I rounded up parts and now I CAN NOT remember where this little spacer goes- I have a guess but I'd rather run it by some of you pro garage folks.

I THINK it goes between the crank gear and the timing cover, with lips out to seal the timing cover but I am not sure enough to assemble it and then have to break everything back down to do all over again if I'm wrong. Can y'all confirm this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm ordering a manual so I can figure all this fun stuff out for myself in the future but if y'all know you would be saving me a few days waiting for the diagrams.

Dude! Thank you so much! so it's ok to be loose on there? Also that is an amazingly specific picture to answer my question. You rule.

This will happen if you install it backwards. Not what you want.

Answer to post #5, It will only be loose until the balancer is tightened.

aw schucks! that's from the chain, I assume. Hope it didn't get beat up too bad. Man, this forum and you guys have been SUPER helpful to my project today, many, many thanks!

I had an odd experience with a slinger couple years ago. Changed cams from a single bolt style that cam with the motor to one of my 3 bolt style, so new timing chain set. Putting it together, noticed the slinger was scored from the old timing chain 7 didn't set right on the new Cloyes crank gear. Found an OEM slinger & sure enough, the offset was greater on the OEM version. Used the OEM on, fit perfect. Junk replacement parts.
*** I had lots of "stock" parts on hand.
