Let me first say, working on my 68 Charger is alot like fishing, it's not fun, it's rewarding.

I was chasing down an exhaust leak, which led to a broken stud on the tube nut, driver side cylinder head. Removed head, removed stud, new stud, got cylinder head back on the block, installed manifold with remflex gasket and now installing the metal exhaust gasket to the downpipe.

I didn't have the foresight to figure out which side the flange gasket goes up. There is an outer and inner ridge. Can anyone tell me which side goes up? I tried to test fit it, but its such an awkard and barely reachable that I cant tell if the fit is correct on the down pipe.

I always put the raised side towards the manifold, but I don’t think it really makes a difference. If the manifold or pipe are rusty or pitted some, I’d coat both sides with a little Copper Coat sealer.

Thanks that is helpful.

I second the ultra copper. I used felpro gaskets that were symmetrical.

I use the thicker graphite fabric like gaskets for that rust reason. Seems to seal off the manifold more than the thin tin ones.
