Ford Contour electric fans

Here's a mockup of my Ford Contour electric fans n shroud on my 26" radiator. With trimming, it fits my '67 Coronet with serpentine pulley setup. Should fit stock v-belt setup w out trimming.

I would certainly cut off a bunch of the plastic plate blocking the radiator.
Kind of odd that the motors don't look identical?
Ford's always seem to have weird stuff.
But the two do fit accross quite nicely.
How are you controlling them?

Looks like one motor is missing a cover that the other one has.

There are only 2 places to cut a small hole in the plastic for cruising airflow. But it would still need to be covered with a flap when stopped and the fans pulling. The stock shroud has approximately 314 sq inches of opening. This setup has approximately 240 sq inches of opening. However, as much debated, electric fans pull much more air at slow speed (car show cruise) and idle. Won't know how everything works for awhile yet. Still building.

I just purchased a NOS Genuine Ford Contour set up and it looks exactly the same....like one cover is missing! It must just be a ford thing.
 
I like it. few bugs to work out but looks like it will all fall into place.
What size of relay did Ford use on the contour ?
Keep us posted , Ive been on the fence about going to electric myself just for the HP gain.
I have heard different figures from 10 to 20 hp the mechanical fans use up. Prob the diff is in size and fixed verses clutch.
 
How will you attach the fan assembly to the radiator?
The radiator has a flange. Drilled holes through the 4 plastic tabs on shroud through the flange on radiator. Then use 1/2" spacers between shroud n radiator and bolt on. Using a flex-a-lite foam molding around edge of shroud.

I'm doing it purely for fit w the serpentine pulley setup and electric work far better at idle with the a/c on. Stock pulleys n no a/c, I'd leave a fan clutch on any day.

As I recall, the extra plastic shroud is actually raised up a bit between radiator ans shroud, and the fans do not sit flush with the radiator.
If you get a close fit / seal with the shroud the fans will pull across a larger part of the radiator.
I would not use the 2-speed fan control in the lower corner of the assembly, just wire each fan to its' own 30+ Amp relay.
I controlled the fans with the older version of the Dakota Digital Electronic Fan Controller. Thaw was before going EFI. now the EFI controls the fans.

The Contour fans worked fine until I added the A/C, then the condenser and extra heat made the setup marginal. On the hottest days, I could only run the A/C for a few minutes before the cooling system temp would get the engine 200+, then shut A/C off and the engine would cool back down.

EXCELLENT! I might follow in your footsteps for this install. What 'amp alternator are you running? Also why do you prefer a clutch fan to an electric one? Thanks for posting...

If you are not running a/c, and not racing or dyno racing for "who has the most hp", a clutch fan is simple, and engineered to pull enough air with a proper fan shroud to cool any engine if it has a proper thermostat, water pump and radiator. If engine gets hot on the highway, 3 posibilities, thermostat, radiator or water pump. If it gets hot in very slow traffic or idling then look at thermostat, fan and fan shroud.
 
Well, I got the flex-a-lite weatherstripping for the shroud. It pushed the shroud out too much so that the fans interfered with the pulleys. So I just bolted it on with the shroud flat against the radiator. It sits flush with it so I guess I'll see in a week or so when I finally get it on the road. Waiting on crimpers so I can put on Delphi weather pack connectors to fans and then it gets installed for the final time.
 
I have the Contour fans with a CVF Racing Beast setup. It's tight but it works great!

I dont have any cooling issues, but I always wanted to see how much power I'm losing to the engine fan. How many amps is your alternator rated at?

It's a modern alternator for a '95 Durango. Also have a new voltage regulator.

would like to ask with the two fan step up when you start the engine do you have both fans running or do you use a temp sensor to turn on second one. Now I have to ask do you have the condenser fan on all the time or also setup at a pressure to come on. Is these fans variable speed.
 
When I mentioned 2-speed fan control, I was referring to the gray box on the lower left of the shroud. It has a resistive wire section to run the fans slower to reduce noise. I control the fans with the EFI which senses the engine temp. Before the EFI, I used the Dikota Digital fan controller that could read the stock sending unit in parallel with the dash gauge (The IVR was converted to electronic long ago.)
