hey guys. I get water coming in from under the dash, behind the panel, when it rains. It's heavier on the passenger side, but drivers and the hump get wet too. Any common issues
here?
 
Wiper pivot seals bad, cowl rusted and has holes, or the windshield lower corner sealer is leaking.
 
It could be the cowl drains blocked with leaves, dirt, mouse nests etc. The water backs up and over tops the fresh air duct inlets.
If you pour water into the cowl through the grille under the windshield it should pour out on the floor at the back of the fenders, just in front of the doors. If it doesn't then they are blocked.
 
Rust? not on a 50 year old mopar
 
thanks everyone. I put new wiper pivot seals in. They look to be torn a bit. Can I silicon that area? Or would that interfere with the wipers?
66 Sat, if this area is blocked, how do you get them unblocked? Is that a major operation?
 
All great opinions but have you looked at your windshield gasket? I had a brand new windshield installed on my 74 Power Wagon by Safelite, leaked like a earthen dam in Michigan. Had to urethane the hell out of it to make it seal...my2cents

Depends on what you consider major. To me it is but some guys here pull engines like I make coffee.
The heater box needs to come out to access the passenger side, on the drivers side you need to disconnect the cables to the fresh air duct and unbolt it. I'm not sure of the exact set up on your model year but I'm sure it's similar. You then need to reach in the hole and clean it out. If it is blocked then it's probably rusty too. Mine only had surface rust thankfully. See how you go with the other suggestions first, you may not have an issue here.
 
I poured a gallon of water down each side of the cowl. Water flowed freely out of each drain hole. No interior water. I'm thinking of adding some silicon around the wiper holes and then putting a new gasket around the windshield

Just install the foam seals, and do NOT use RTV. All that is required are the seals, and have worked that way for decades.
 
I put new seals in when I restored the wiper arms. Perhaps I will try the windshield gasket first.
 
Per the shop manual, the two bottom corners, 5" or so vertical and horizontal, needs sealer. I CAN tell you what happens when you don't, LOL...

PCS'ing back to Germany, I had to stop under the overpasses every time it rained. :)
 
Here's a cheaper way don't go out in the rain.

Try pouring water over the window corners to verify where the water is coming in before you pull the windown
