I have a 30LB tank of R12 sitting in the garage. I don't see using it as none of my cars use it. There are a bunch of companies online that buy this stuff. I know once i sale it i wont be able to buy it again in California. Is there any reason I shouldn't sale it? Whats a fair price, it weighs 29.6 on the bath scale?

isn't it over $150 a pound

You need to deduct the tank weight and R12 is hard to get and expensive
It is also not permitted in some location check before you sell to stay out of trouble

If the tank is sealed, you should be able to sell it easily, under the table. To sell it or handle it above board, you're supposed to be epa certified. If it's not sealed, its worthless, as it could be anything in there. Also, the price per pound, that a contractor charges the end user, is MUCH higher than what a contractor pays for a jug, at a supply house.

I recently sold a virgin 30 lb. to one of them, they paid me $14 a pound. Saved a partial tank for future use. You never know when you might come into possession of a dinosaur that uses it and I won't do R134 conversions.

Cans of real R12 on eBay are $35-$50 per can. Some deals on a quantity of cans do come up.

R12 comparable or replacement is cheap, but I wouldn’t use it.

The empty tanks are pretty light. There are some 30 lb sold on eBay. $29-$32 per pound and free shipping is what I saw happening.

in my area there are police acting like customers and trying to buy r12. when they come and you don't have a lic it is a ticket for illegal possession. rumor here is that a man is sitting on 400 cases.

I remember when R12 went on sale at TG&Y for $1.19 per can. We bought 3 cases.

Funny how you now need a license to sell it, but back in the day you could just walk into a store and buy it.

Yeah, well now you can get a DUI in your boat, you can’t operate your boat without a boaters safety card. And a carbon monoxide sticker on the interior. WTH?

You need a license to buy a 30 pound canister. You do not need a license to buy 1 pound cans.

Depends on the state, some states require a license to purchase any quantity.

Swap meets are a good place to find it and can be bought fairly reasonably. I won't ever use R134 in a R12 system.
