Harbor Freight Jack Stands Recalled !

Well, if you gotta go,,,,Least we we'll be happy doin' what we love..

why would you buy something so cheap that you depend on with your life ! a jack is one thing.you jack it up from out from under car. then you put a good pair of safety jack stands under to be able to get under it. safely

I had 8 from 3 different parts stores and HF. All of mine were from sing a por sling. If you have a fifty year old made in the USA, it may be made in the USA, but, it's fifty years old. I've had cars on mine for years at a time with no problem, a recall is a different story. I'm now down to 2 and gave the rest away when I moved. I have made it a point for the last few years to buy USA everything, good luck with that. I'm not a traitor, the companies are. Thanks for the heads up.

Still got my Hien warners from a zillion years ago.. (ratchet style) NEVER an issue

I have an old set of jack stands that someone on YouTube identified as being dangerous as the locking pawl is not positively locked on the hand lever. https://youtu.be/T3W8SEDsuCI
After seeing this I rushed out to the garage to check mine and found that my same model jack stands have a drive pin that locks the hand lever to the pawl therefore were not at risk for this failure.

Did anyone notice half of the label on one of the stands is printed upside down?

I'm confused . Harbor freight recall says 61196 is a six ton, painted gray. I've got I think two sets of 61196, painted gray, marked 3 ton. (One set is 200 miles away, so not sure). One set under the front of my big block opel, one under a big block dually.
Just got a new northern catalog, looks like I'm shopping for jackstands..

What ? now you say Wuhan Jack Stands aren't any good ? :poke:
go figure

thanks for the heads up anyway

This is just a perfect example of the China conundrum . U.S. built jackstands, if you can find them are $100 plus, and hold your car up. Chinese stands are $30, minus your 20% coupon, and hold your car up. Who wants to throw away seventy bucks?........
until you find out that they WON'T hold your car up! China stuff is fine till it won't do the job it's supposed to do. The problem nowadays is finding something of quality that will do the job, then deciding to pay the premium.
Considering the mood regarding China at the moment, I expect to see more people paying that premium in the future!

As I said in the other jack stands thread last January......

My dad bought me a pair of these 40+ years ago & I later bought anther set myself. If they've lasted 4 decades, they must be good.

 I took the entire rear end and leaf springs out of my charger with those holding the car up. I was laying under it too:realcrazy:

All though the Chinese do make some cheap crap....so does virtually every other country in the world. There is always someone trying to cut corners to save a few quid on production and make a few more on sales whichever country you pick. The Chinese just have a lot more of those characters than most places!
