Hey Guys,

What do you think of the QA1 Suspension package for my 69 RR? Is it good quality? How much does it improve handling? I have the borgenson steering and wonder if that works with it too. I want to restomod and trying to upgrade everything I can but only if its worth it and shows a good handling change. Thanks!

No experience with the QA1 as I went with the Hotchkis TVS. If you're looking for an alternative i can highly recommend the Hotchkis kit. My car handles flatter than my ex's front and rear...

QA1 makes good products, I have their k-frame, LCAs and strut rods with heavier Hotchkis torsion bars. All of the QA1 stuff I've seen retains the stock geometry so no issues with the borgeson steering box. I was very happy when I upgraded, the front end is more direct and feels more stable with the heavier t-bars.

The QA1 UCAs are not adjustable like some others are, so you may not be able to dial in as much camber/caster as with adjustable ones. Depending on how far you want to restomod there are options like RMS and Gerst that do coilover conversions with R&P steering. Those would provide more adjustability and more modern geometry.

Hmm good point; I didnt know the UCAs on the QA1 weren't adjustable. If you're really going for the restomod route suspension adjustability is important. With the Hotchkis UCA's I dialed in *6 of positive caster...

Thanks, did you have any problems bolting the k-frame in? Whats LCA's?

I have the QA1 front end kit, Borgeson box and PST 1.03 bars. Very happy with everything and there is more than enough caster built into their UCAs so adjustable ones shouldn't be necessary if just a driver.

No issues bolting up the k-frame. The QA1 LCAs are a slightly different style and should be more rigid than stock OE out of the box. QA1 are tubular vs. the OE stamped steel. There are weld-in reinforcement kits for the OE LCAs too, so you have options.

Thanks guys, this will be a driver so I may go with the QA1 package. Was it hard to install? Did it really make that big of a difference?

Again I cant speak for the QA1 but the Hotchkis stuff completely transformed my car's road manners. I'd say its right behind my lightly modded '01 Mustang GT which is a good handler. You cant go wrong with an aftermarket suspension, QA1 or whatever; the stock stuff just can't cut it for what you're looking for. Will you also do stuff like torque boxes? Boxing the LCA's? SFC's? Etc?

Only problem with all of this chassis tightening is that you end up feeling every ******* flaw in the road. With san Diego's bad roads I lose a tooth filling or two everytime I take the Charger out. Asides from that you will LOVE the upgrade; it broke my bank but it was worth it...

Thanks, yes, I also will be getting frame rail connectors.

I have the K member, lowers, uppers, strut rods ,PST heavy TBs and a Borgenson though not on the road yet. Installed my uppers last week they were a tight fit.Everything looks like its quality stuff.
The Borgenson box is already mounted to the Km and had no issues.
If you want adjustable I believe @biomedtechguy has the SPCCs, maybe he will chime in on how well they work.

Thanks Mike67!

It's not that bad, just make sure you know how to loosen off the torsion bars and have a tool to remove the bars without damaging them(unless scrapping the bars). Also use the Bergman coupler instead of the Borgeson one.

After the shop owner delayed my appointment for fear:eek: of coronavirus:rolleyes: to do multiple system installations on my Roadrunner, I finally got a date to bring my car to him June 10th.
I got a great price on the SPC UCAs from a website, and Summit, who I got all of the QA1 stuff from, matched it. I like the Hotchkis UCAs but EEK they are expensive. So everything is QA1 K-member and all front suspension, EXCEPT for the SPC UCAs.
You may want to look at a forum sponsor for his performance modded SPC UCAs. They weren't available or I didn't know about them when I put my parts list together.

Here's the installation video by SPC:
